I've done Gisborne to home via Napier (about 620km) in one stretch only stopping for petrol (nice early start had a late lunch when I got home). About 6.5hrs straight and still felt like I could continue.

I did a test last week. I put a 4L container of petrol in the top box and ran the tank dry - 360km (about 5.5L/100km). All things considered, and Gremlin's GS not withstanding, not a bad range for NZ.

I've not riden the 600 (I'll have to hit you up for a test-ride if you do get it). Certainly those complaining about it's power were probably experienced speed junkies. Anyway, from a 250 you'd probably not be dissapointed.
why is it that i cannot understand why one is talking to The Chef about buying a 750???? have a look at is flippin 250!!! perhaps he should wait til he can look after a smaller bike. seriously do u need that power Matt?

for th record my wee bike can do 360 on a tank too :-) and i didnt get a sore butt. prob b/c of the fat layer as a cushion

long trips and comfort - i did a 14 hr trip from syd to melb on a blackbird. hard to stay awake. def. a couch on two wheels.

Alot of the damage to the 250 was done a while ago and the only recent one was the lovely diesel one, which was more of an unfortunate event than anything.
Have you looked at the price of smaller bikes recently?, they are over priced and a waste of money for what you get and since I don't have too long till I need to upgrade I would rather just get the next thing and save the trouble.
I find that there are times I do need the power, splitting, dangerous situations where it is best to blast through than brake, longer trips and a variety of other situations.

Also, the more I calculate it, the slimmer the chances of getting that bike are anyhow so it is more of a dream.
Rest in peace Tony - you will be missed.
