Or like NZ, deny its largest city the funds to build a public transport system,then when it fails use the draconian laws it passes late at night to step in & takeover from the democratically elected representatives....a bit like ECAN & the Canterbury earthquake laws

Simple really ...

For State made up stuff you are answerable in this life time .. (do what we say or go to jail) For Religious stuff people believe they are answerable to a higher authority FOR EVER ... (Do what I say or burn in hell for eternity ...)

Faced with the alternatives of jail (state punishment) or Hell (God's punishment) believers will take jail every time .... 'cause then they'll go to heaven ..

That makes religious stuff more important for believers ...
