aww I cry foul, different market surely. There is a total different mindset I would have thought (& at this stage I realise I'm arguing out of my league with a bike salesman), but a different mindset of buyer when you pass some $ value, lets say $5000 when it becomes a different style of purchase.

Nah. I recently sold my gorgeous 79 Elsinore. It wouldn't sell when I offered it starting at 6k. But finally I dropped the reserve right down just to get people bidding.

It then sold for $6220.00. I think most Kiwi's once the decide they want something and bid on it... they hate being outbid.

The other problem you get, is you don't know if you have a guy willing to pay $1000 more than where the bidding stops.

It must take a special sort of fuckwit to be a business analyst for trademe. Go search for something in a price range, you'll see what I mean.

We put trade-ins worth up to about $6-7,000 on $1 reserve, works out well every time. Those that can only afford to spend $2k stop bidding at ....$2k, those who can only afford to spend $4k stop bidding at ....$4k. We've never had an issue with payment.

Auto 'auction-extension'. It happens (from memory - someone correct me if I'm wrong) if there are bids within the last two minutes of the auction (if the seller enables it), enabling a bidding war to begin.

FWIW, I've decided that I'll create a new $1 Reserve auction to start November 1st (if the bike doesn't go before then), and I'll request that Trade Me credit my account - I suppose it's better than a kick up the arse
