Speed camera tickets almost double

There are signs to warn you that speed cameras are there.They are speed signs if you don't know the speed limit you shouldn't be driving or riding. If you want to cut the number of tickets,don't brake the law.
Two things that caught me eye; 1 at a number of the sights that cameras are placed accidents increased. 2 if it was not revenue gathering but safety, put the funds gathered in to road safety not the general account.

don't forget avg speed is down too, that's why their introducing the 4km/h tolerance to keep profit up

add that the cameras are only accurate to 2% and the average speedo is out by 5-8%, and the official tolerance levels look like just what they are - a heavy handed authoritarian fuck you, to the motoring public!

...and the police out there that actually know and care about what's going on, on the roads, few though they seem to be.....

Signs as in a dubious looking van parked at the side of the road, or signs as in round things stuck to posts that say Speed Camera Area? They all went years ago. Funny thing is those signs identified sites where speed related crashes took place (supposedly) so the signs had some kind of affect 24 hours a day as a warning to motorists to take care - they were as much about road safety as the cameras were. Without them, like someone else has said, you get told you were speeding long after the event which does nothing to reduce your speed or improve your safety on the day in question.

Without signs and without demerits they are just a very cheap way of making lots and lots of money.

I recall signs that said "You are entering a speed camera area"....Not sure if NZ or elsewhwre....but a good idea in my opinion...put them up in high risk areas to slow traffic....if you get caught in one of these areas then you deserve it.

Some will say that the whole country is a speed camera zone ATM, however if the Govt/police were serious about addressing safety in high risk areas then targeting speeding with cameras and warning signs in high risk areas would be a good start

yup....just a warning you are entering an area that may have a speed camera....but do not use speed cameras outside of those areas, leave that to the reg patrolling cops, This way speed cameras will be seen for what they should be...a deterrent to speeding in high risk areas...
