The whole country being thought of as a speed camera zone was one of the things discussed when the original signs were taken down

They did start off that way, apart from the fixed cameras. Luckily you can ride between the loops and not slow down for those. Apparently. But the original (signed) mobile sites in and around town were sites that had speed related crashes. It has changed over the years though and now I would have to say there is little to no correlation between mobile speed camera placement and speed related crashes.

I'll now wait for someone to come along and say that this proves that they work.

I was going to say it is a tax on being unobservant but figured I would get slammed.

Not so....there should be speed camera warning on the open roads in location that are accident trouble spots

Which defeats the argument that speed cameras target accident trouble spots... Now they are nothing more than blatant revenue gathering and road safety does not enter into the speed camera debate to any arguable degree

That was the original reasoning for their introduction, waaaaaay back when.

Then the lie got a bit bigger and they were allowed "anywhere anytime", which equates to "wherever we can get some heavy taxing happening".

Interestingly enough, flashing your headlights might become a good tax earner...

I'm always surprised at how many "accident black spots" just happen to be at the bottom of slopes in urban areas...

Yep and isn't it amazing how you never seem to see an accident or the evidence of one there?

The response is either a case of "we are never wrong" or shows that it is about revenue. Actually it is probably both. It is valid to flash your lights to warn of a hazard or danger and if you think the guy is going a bit fast then that's a hazard

After reading the latest news articles and doing more research, I admit to feeling a bit uneasy with the way things are going on the speeding and revenue gaining issue.

This is a shift from my earlier stance but I will continue to stay within the law because I just don't want to pay them one more dollar than they deserve.

Police Minister Collins should be called Cha-ching Collins not Crusher Collins.
