Two queries:
1) I need some simple engineering work done on a pack rack. One of the minor horizontal bars has broken free on one end, will need to be welded back. As well, I want some mods done to the top-box mounting plate: It is cracked and was mounted (by a previous owner) to the rack using twisted wire, bent bolts and washers, a few screws and a piece of wood. I'd like to have it repaired and modified to bolt-on more... elegantly than before! I have a design idea that is simple enough.
So the question here is, can anyone recommend an engineering shop in Hamilton that can do this (preferably inexpensively)?
2) Chain and sprockets. I know the RF has an odd 532 chain, and I don't know if the one fitted has been changed or not; is there an easy way to tell? The chain appears ok, except for some patches of corrosion on the sides of some links(!?). The rear sprocket appears to be a 43tooth (same as OEM if I'm not mistaken), and seems to be in good order; haven't checked the front one yet.
If / when I replace them is a kit like this one any good?
On that note, there are a number of combinations of sprockets available to vary the final drive. The one above appears to be very close to stock, but would anyone recommend a change here too?
Bike is new to me, but I'm taking my time trying to get everything clean, right, and sorted, but with very real budget limitations.I can hardly wait to get it all put back together and get riding again!
