I take it you don't invite the local vicar to see your wall decorations in your garage...unless she is your local vicar

I would say lucky you....but I'm not sure my bloodpressure could handle it![]()
Forward controls welded up and mounted now. Simple and effective. Maybe a bit of linishing to do on them later.
Bending up steel rod to form the suicide shifter
Planning on using one of the bolt holes used to mount pillion pegs, as the mounting for a pivot for the suicide shifter. Had to drill it wider to fit the bolt. Then managed to fuck the bolt by removing to much of the shank off it.

Spent about 5 hours on the shifter. Still not finished, but I've had problems with the MIGs wirefeeder and then designing it has been a learning experience.
Mainly learned about necessity of pivot points and that they be parallel 90 degrees from each other or there isn't enough push and pull to change gear.
First attempt wouldn't push
Second attempt would only push and pull a little.
Going to modify further so the shift linkage runs 90 degrees to the pivot on the lever.
Hopes it works this time.

Think I got it all sorted now. Got it all shifting etc but didn't go for a putter as the brakes are disconnected. Sometimes not always shifting but I think it's a problem with the clutch.
Just need the head piece drilled to 12mm and will go on top of the shift arm with the clutch lever attached to it.
Lots of grinding to do, to tidy all the welds and metal stock.

95% finished on the shifter. Needs a little bit more machining, then threading, and then the main rod going onto the shift arm needs to be welded on. Then all the welds need tidying up, and I have a few nylock nuts to buy. Will also try a different routing of the clutch cable.
Seems to work well and is a comfortable shift for me. Smaller person with shorter arms may have trouble. Glad I won't have to replace the clutch!
Started working on the rear brake linkage but when you push on the brake pedal the drum arm doesn't return. So have put that on hold until I pull the rear wheel and see if the springs on the inside are fucked. Most likely are.

New air intake. Simple as shit to make. Now just pondering how to tidy up that area in the frame - lots of hoses and wires.
With the new intake, carb had to be adjusted. Is purring nicely now, and the mods I did to the stock exhaust sound good.

Went for a putter on it today.
Took me a long pause of uncomfortable premonition to get my head around riding 16" apes with a suicide shifter. Fumbled down the drive, and got on the road and puttered along.
Quick test ride revealed the shifter was too far down and forward, and the pod air filter needed to be recessed further into the middle of the frame.
Stuttered back to the workshop. Bent up the shifter so it was more upright and slightly further from the tank. Adjusted air filter.
Was much easier to get going second time around. No problems shifting. Got up to 5th gear, and back down. No problems.
Tightened up the nuts on the shifter and linkage, and added another nut to lock it up against.
Just got brake linkage, rear fender bracket and mounting, front brake hose guide and maybe a tidy tray to go under the seat to hide all the wires, then it's ready for paint and wiring the rear section.

No problems with the shifter wanting to find a gear by itself when you hit a bump and it gets whipped backwards/forwards??

Nah, not so far. I hit a speed hump at reasonable snot and seemed ok. The shift arm is made out of solid 12mm steel rod, with a 22mm steel rod at the top for the clutch lever clamp (since the clutch lever is on the shifter). It's got a fair bit of weight and leans slightly forward.

Won't know until it's used a lot, but from hoofing up and down the local road and over a speed hump no problems. Realistically, it's not going to be used for much more than punting locally. I think I'd get tired of the apes and shifter pretty quick if I was doing long rides or during rush hour.

And my right elbow is fractured, so that probably is contributing quite a bit to making it difficult to ride (since the right hand is needed to keep you up right when you shift gear, or start moving)
