H and J forks are longer than L or M forks, have plastic surrounds on the adjusters, different lower clamp sizes.
J and M model forks are SP with the adjuster on the bottom of the fork.
H1 also had slightly different (cruder) internals than H2
Going from what you have given me I'd say they're H model ones. I have another set on my bike that are shorter and wider so those would be L model?
Arborist available - Will trade tree work services for bike parts or servicing! PM me...

Yeah, they'd be H model then, I have an L model leg in my garage and it's quite a bit shorter.

Hey duclover, do you or anybody else know enough about these forks to tell me what fork I have if the top clamp is 52mm and the bottom is 53, total length 715mm (or 720 depending on how its measured) and caliper mounting points that appear to fit a 310mm-320mm disc?

When I get the chance I'll measure my L and H legs up.
These are H fork bottoms though Click image for larger version.

The easiest way to tell was the shitty black plastic cap on the adjusters (the damper adjusting screw pokes through them) To my knowledge the L was different.

the H and L had SP as well but a little more rare.
From recall you could not tell much from the outside, but the SP had different internals (springs etc).

The H ones are the ugliest, but the most durable of the lot. H1 forks are still around today, but most of the L's have been 'consumed'.

J is the H model SP and M is the L model SP, according to Kawsaki nuts
    Mine are H1 forks.
SP had an adjuster on the bottom of the fork leg too.

H model are around 480mm, top to bottom of just the gold leg, the L model is a fair bit shorter. (have put them next to each other) my verniers are fooked so can't measure the sizes better.
