Ride was thoroughly enjoyable, great to catch up with everyone, good to see new faces as well.

Nice to meet you all at BK. Thanks for the tip on heading up to Duane's Bikes. Will do that once I've got my ride.

And to give you lot an idea of the roads I travelled in Japan, see this YouTube:

Watch for the little red car around the 3:55 mark, and I'm finally past the slower riders from around 10:30.

Maybe call it the midweek ride? That way we're safe if it ends up being a Tuesday or a Thursday due to uncooperative weather.

Meh. I think it should be fixed to Wednesdays, whatever the weather, and peeps show up in appropriate gear. Like eskimos.

If you like that stuff you probably enjoy most of the Arakoa run and if you want slightly more open corners with a few straights here n there the round trip Lewis and Arthurs Passes with or without extras like out to Westport down the West coast, and of course further a field... most the rest of the country. (not counting the 45 minutes on the Canterbury Planes in any given direction inland )

Same in Japan. We spend an hour on the Tomei, Chuo or Kan-etsu to get to the best roads, cos believe you me, you don't want to be on the low roads in traffic on a hot day. If you don't melt, your bike will.

I can believe it! I did roads down south of Japan, that were quite a bit tighter than that, in a big 8 seater van. Thank god for aircon!
They're an interesting people, huh? They seem to follow every rule to the letter except for the speed limit. I don't think we saw more than 2 cops on our two week trip, again amazing after the roads here.

Bet you're hanging out for your baby to arrive. When it does there's plenty of good riding around here, like Transalper said, just go in any direction, apart from East unless your bike is amphibian.
