Dunno what the weather is going to give us this weekend ...

Also, had a cautionary tale for all of you out there: check your cables. Just snapped my clutch this morning, luckily only a few blocks from home & I finally get to use that spare I've had hanging around for 3yrs - but better than waiting 2+ weeks for one to come from factory. Original cable looked OK last weekend (replaced the starter lockout switch on Sunday) but a clean snap this morning.

Would certainly have put a crimp in the ride on Sat.

So Gareth what was it you said about MaxF's "Funky ass curves"? - God, now I'm worried...

Whenever I snap a cable I head to safe r brakes on Fitzgerald ave. They've done throttle and clutch cables for me. I've never had any issues with the cables they've done at all. They will even do the various adjusters that go on a throttle cable. Usually a new inner will sting you $39.

Good to know but have sworn off Safe-R after all the paint peeled off under my master cylinder on the old BMW car after I had some work done by them... "not their work, not their problem". Maybe they've changed in the 10yrs since, but I'm not willing to chance it; full new cable is $40 anyway.

$40? Seriously? Inner and outer? Christ, next time one of mine snaps I might actually look at getting an OEM one! I'd rather have a brand new one over a rebuilt one any day!

Spuds is correct it is mine.

I picked it up from a guy advertising it on the side of the road. I got it pretty cheap.

So far it owes me $100 for a reg/rec, $100 for a new battery, $500 for a fuel system overhaul (New fuel pump, new needles, balance and clean(It goes so much better now!)), $50 for new decals and finally $120 to get all the plastic welding done.

All I have to do now is get it painted. I've been quoted $800 for the paint job by Southbrook Panel and Paint here in Rangiora. I'm not gonna do that though until I get used to riding it. It's so different to the bikes I usually ride that I've had a case of the dropsies once or twice.

Its a great bike though. It's done 102,000 and the engine is still really smooth, runs great and it's a joy to ride. Hopefully I should get another 100,000km out of it. Gear driven cams for the win!

Venhill ones from the Uk: doubt BMW would be as cheap. 17GBP ex Motobins, and would rather have 100% fresh liner on the outer too...

Funny you mention Roger, he did all the carb and fuel system work for me. Top bloke and top mechanic. You pay a bit more for his service but the work he does is top notch. I was really stoked with it.

You've probably seen me on a Thursday I'm guessing. That's when I head into town around 430ish. You probably won't see the VFR out much over winter, I much prefer the KLR when the weather starts getting nasty.

If you up for a ride at weird times during the week, let me know. Most days I'm finished before noon so a quick ride up to Cheviot or Greta Valley for a beer/coffee is always on the cards.
