VMCC winter series round 5 - Mihi Banks
Preparation for this round started a couple of weeks before, Riding Buckets at Kaitoke to build my confidance and aggression for the big track. Borrowing kobas NSR250 framed MB100 two weekends before and Dads CBR150 on the last Wednesday before VMCC Round 5.
After getting dad to run up and down the street trying to push start my KR150 on Friday night (because it didnt want to kick-start
), we loaded the van and got prepared for race day.
Saturday
I swear it is going to take me a while to get used to getting up at 4.45am !! So anyway after straightening my hair and doing my make-up.....we make our way up to the track.
Got our notes from Moto Academy Steve just before riders briefing, I went over them in the morning about rhythm, being in the zone and overtaking.
Qualifying
Qualified 15th out of 20 with a 1.43, begining of the day and I already had a new PB !! Awsome fun when Sue Forrest (#27) Rogan Chandler (#36) and I all came out of the hairpin side by side
Race 1
I had the shittiest start out of the shittiest starts, stalled then hit neutral
oh boy did I have alot of places to make up, and running wide and riding off Higgens probably didnt help. Playing the catch up game (again) I managed to get back up to 15th by the end of the race, 7th out of 9 in my class. (Dads beginning to worry about Taupo now that my passes are more agressive
)
Race 2
Wet, dry, wet, dry, wet, dry, well it decided it wanted to stay wet for this one. Better start than Race 1 but it was still really bad!! Passed 3 people comming into the infield on lap 2, Aaron Hassan (#42) Oliver Croft (#17) and Richard Taylor (#18) next my sights where set on this orange bike, Ben Carter (#66) after a couple of laps closing in on him I waited for a good oppertunity, then bam into the Hairpin on lap 4 I made a move and managed to hold it finishing 10th out of 17 with a 1.44 in the wet !!
soo hows about AFTER the checkered flag I just thought I would pop in and see those 15 year old boys in turn 1...just for old times sake
Throwing mysel at the track once again.
Race 3
Before this race dad took me down the side of the pits so i could practise my clutch control and holding my revs to get better starts. I found that by using 2 fingers instead of 4 on the clutch I got better control. Much better start !! but still losing places into the first turn, Dicing with Oliver Croft (#17) for a while (the whole race), it took until the last couple of laps for me to pull my finger out and try stay infront nearly got past on the last lap in the last corner, but he got across the line just before me. My best lap being 1.41.
Overall I had a good day taking another few seconds of my last PB 1.44, my new PB is 1.41. Still not doing 1.30s like I wanted to, but its coming (hopefuly) im now doing consistant 1.41s. Built my confidence and worked on the mental side of racing alot more this round.
I would like to thank my sponsors and supporters: Steve (Moto Academy), Billy (ACR fiberglass), Wharfy (K2 racing), Alex (Ride Life), Shaun (Motodynamics), Heidenau Tyres, DP brake pads and Jeff Whitehead.
