Midweek Auckland Ride - wed 13/7

The weather report says tomorrow should be sunny with some cloud so fine for a midweek ride. A mate and I are definately going for a ride sometime tomorrow but the time is undecided at present. If people express interest in joining us for the ride tomorrow I'll arrange a more definate time and meeting place.

Was thinking of doing the same route we took on the Sunday Auckland ride two weeks back, the one up north via Old North Road and on to Wellsford. Was also considering maybe riding to Piha instead as I have yet to go out that way.

So yeah, anyone interested? Thinking of departing at around 12ish.

Watch out for fallen trees and zzr250's if you go out to Piha.

I'd imagine the road would be worse than usual given the recent weather.

I might be interested in going as far as Kaukopakopa if you head out Old North.
We're all fucked. I'm fucked. You're fucked. The whole department is fucked. It's the biggest cock-up ever. We're all completely fucked.

    I read that.........

Hey Dave - if you wanna do down Scenic Drive I'll be happy to ride down there with you - can take about a 1.5 hour break from work.

Let me know what time you want to head off..... if that is what you decide.

I can meet you at the Shell GreenBay - thats the best meeting place in Titirangi

    zzr250's on the road

I thought you were into the semi-offroad road experience and in light of this would love to head out to piha?

But point taken, will go up North then.

Up to you, I'd probably come back from KKK on the gravel back roads. You'd be welcome to join me.

That wasn't too bad a ride today. We went from Westgate Shell along SH16, then turned off to Old North and followed that through to Kaukopakopa, where we waited for Gareth to show. From there I went back via Kaihikatea Flat Road, Forestry Road, etc through to Old North Road, while the others carried on to Wellsford.

Comming back from Old North Road, SH16 was coned off between Old North and the Coatesville-Riverhead Highway. Looked like there had been an accident near the sign advising drivers to slow down, due to a high accident risk.

Must have happened recently, as the traffic was only starting to bank up and the fire/ambulance teams hadn't arrived yet. No sure what the story was, as I didn't stick around.

I'm slowly comming to grips with the new bike, learning the limitations and potentials to the tires on dry tarmac, wet tarmac and gravel roads.

Interestingly I seem to be adopting a mx style of riding, whereby you stay upright, and move the bike underneath you. Seems counterproductive, considering that on sprotsbikes I've been trying to keep the bike upright by hanging off the side.

It appears to work though, so who am I to question?

Good ride thanks for joining us. You missed some high speed cornering action on the way back from Wellsford, Steve and I were really pushing it on the way back. Your riding looked all right I think, you were doing the whole MX thing and sticking your foot out quite a bit. I've never really taken notice of that kinda riding so not sure if I can really comment.

Funny, in Wellsford we spoke to these two guys. Must be in their mid twenties, one had an 05' R1 model whilst the other the 05' ZX10R. Flash gear including radar detectors and intercoms. Funny thing is they kinda struck me as being quite inexperienced riders. Not sure what gave me that impression though.

Maybe there will be a bit larger turnout if another similar ride is planned for midweek next week.
