    GSX-R 750 K5 maintenance

    Hi all,

Recently got myself a Gixxer in anticipation of my full license

What kinda general maintenance do I need to do? I've been mainly riding my '87 Hornet which requires only petrol to go (just about) and weekly tyre pressure checks.

Mainly trying to figure cooling (I read oil cooling in addition to the usual coolant/water mix somewhere?) lubrication (full synthetic vs normal, where to check levels) and transmission oil (same as engine oil?)

Any other maintenance checks I need to do?

    Cheers

No different to your Hornet, really.
Water cooled, reservoir is forward of the fairing on the right side
Oil, engine/gearbox all in one. Semi-synthetic or full synthetic = your choice. Check level is at the top of the glass window when the bike is vertical on level ground.
Regular chain lubrication is recommended. Adjustment as/when required.
    Tyre pressures checked regular too.

Not much else, except for valve clearances, oil/filter change, air cleaner replaced at the recommended intervals.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

The K5 sem fiddy is an excellent bike. the oil is cooled by a heat exchanger.. no maintenance required there.
Just use a quality 10W40 oil in it. Change it every 6000km. Common to transmission.
    Just normal maintenance, really.
