Well the last time I did it - we left at 9:30 from the autobahn and I was home by 4pm.....

    But the weather was perfect.....

Rain is expected tomorrow and Sunday is supposed to be ....... so I think leaving early will be prudent......

I hope like hell that I'm up in time......

Fella, after more miles when you become (self professed) "decent", I'd hope that you might change your attitude towards "crashing is part of biking".

You might have had some reasonable escapes from the time(s?) you've been down, but the one big accident that I've had kept me as a guest of Middlemore Orthopaedics for 8 days and off work for 8 weeks. AND I still got off lighter than I should have. Hence I truly believe in the "keeping the rubber side down, shiny side up" adage and consciously ride with that in mind. Explains why I'm such a nana eh?

I don't think you can be so nonchalant about crashing (whatever vehicle). I'll side with the likes of Ixion (eek!) on this one: yes, it does happen, but crashing should NOT be considered an accepted or fatalistic outcome of being on two wheels. And to perpetuate that attitude through this medium is not cool bro.

    Ride to survive.

[Oh shit - have I just become one of the nagging brigade?? ]

Jandalled [jan-duhlled] past tense - usage: "bro, I've just gone and jandalled it"

Yes Nhuan, you can now consider yourself a nagging Nana!!

Well said btw, even if it was at JSG's expense.

    Ride safe all 2day.

Ooh..... looks like I've gone and done it again huh.....

I'm not a fatalist with a deathwish Nhuahn, if you've seen me ride you'll know that.

I guess I believe more in the 'when' rather than the 'if' scenario and the fact that true accidents are quite hard to prevent.

Hence my going out today to gain more time on the road and try to become a slightly more capable rider.

Crashing is horrible, first there is the risk of injury to others and yourself and the longer term effects of those injuries if any, then there is the time off the road for all parties, then the insurance hassles (assuming you have insurance), then the potetial loss of earnings while off work, then........

Trust me I DON'T want to crash. I've been lucky so far that I've only had a minor fall, I don't want to have a major fall. I've spoken to several people (awesome riders and racers) who've all had the big tumble and not one of them has been too positive about it; I have no wish to join that club.

By the way - if you are free it would be great to see you there

Actually, it is the realisation that crashing is inevitable that keeps me on my toes. It means no matter how great things are going right now I'm only microseconds from disaster so I need to concentrate all of the time - be real defensive - never assume that cause you've been round that blind corner at 140k it's safe to do so today etc
It is better to have ridden & crashed than never to have ridden at all

At first I wasn't going to go on this ride because of the early start and the length, but after checking the weather forecast last night, I figured if I was going to go on a ride this weekend, it'd probably have to be saturday.
    It turned out blimmin good.
Thanks for the advice, zthou, it's made me think a bit more about my cornering technique.

I'm knackered now after the ride, got a sore arse and sore knees. Time to relax.

    Thanks justsomeguy

Good ride - 7 of us after grouping at Kopu.
Road damp till Coromandel, and muddy on a 25kph right-hander, which everyone seemed to enjoy!!
On the dry road the pace changed Back to Kopu without incident.
Passed between Whitianga and Tairua a group on bikes going the opposite way.
    Quite trip back home

Good ride, good company, good weather. Nice one justsomeguy

I couldn't make the ride - other priorities in the morning. But got finished about 2, looked at the sky and decided to go for a blat. Ended up at Kawakawa Bay. Saw 3 or 4 riders on the way back through Clevedon about 4 - was that any of you guys?

I was wondering if that was you! You had a packrack or backpack on your bike I think? I followed you for a fair way. Justsomeguy would've been ahead of you; zapf and chickenfunkstar were behind me.
