Great ride today, nice to meet some new people, the Coromandel loop is always good fun.
Few slightly dogey moments, especially the 25kph corner which was covered in mud.
I especially enjoyed the part of the ride in the section between Whitianga and Tairua. Good mix of fast flowing corners with some good tight stuff at the end. I really got into a good rythem as the road was pretty dry by that stage.

    Cheers for organising JSG.

ummm... i think you'll have to ask zapf that, we regrouped at clevedon and he led the way back. Looking at the map, I think we went over twilight road then up to Whitford and then Pakuranga before we all split up and went our separate ways.

Well, well - what a nice ride - and the weather held too......

I think we did at least 450kms all together..... and thats probably the longest ever I've kept my bike over 10,000 all the time......

Chickenfunkstar, Erik, Zapf and I took off a bit late after a bit of debate as to which road to take - left around 9.....

Reached Kopu to meet Warr, ZThou and Teflon.

Decided to take off towards thames I think or to the left if you stand and face the kopu mobil.....(anti-clockwise I think)

This turned out to be the right choice as the roads were still damp and the opposite lane had a lot of mud on it.

As soon as we hit open road the pace quickened which each rider riding as fast as he was comfortable with.

We stopped at Coromandle for lunch, all seven of us smiling like jackasses after those twisties...... no moments save one where we had to pass through a 25k decreasing radius righ hand up hill corner, which was covered in a layer of wet mud.......

Headed over the hills to Whitianga after lunch for more twisties and sweepers and kept going till Tairau where we stopped for another break.....

From Tairau we went to Kopu for a last refuel and then split up wth the Waikato bikers leaving us.

We returned through the miranda straights where surprisingly I found my little 2fiddy was happy to cruise at a nice "something"fiddy .......

Until we reached clevedon where I saw MikeL pass us by...then after discussing which way to take we went via whitford towards Botany and then headed home.

Superb day - and 7 was a perfect group size.

Rider of the day - Warr - you sure know your bike inside out don't you boy??

Just been reading about the flooding on the 'Herald' site. Looks like you just beat it (all except for Waylander). Hope he's ok.

Yep he is ok... I'm in contact with him via txt.

Just trying to find out if the roads are open again for him...

He needs to get back to Tauranga....
He is with his mum..... and they are in a car... stranded in Coromandel.

So if anyone knows if the roads are re opened... please let me know, so I can then let him know.
    Cheers.

Well that was fun... Anyway glad y'all missed out on the crap weather. Good thing you didn't go today. See my post in the Road conditions update. Washouts, slips, flooding... Nice road to ride but gonna be atleast 2 weeks without rain before I try to ride it lol. Thanks Crashe for the updates as we went. Probably would have gotten stuck somewhere if it wasn't for you.

You shouldnt be worring about our floods mate. Thought you'd be out on that new GTR of yours.
BTW looks like I'll put the GTR dream on hold for myself. Prob pick up a spare motor to give the XJ a few more years.
If I had more of a tourer like the GTR, outings like yesterday may have to be at a more sedate pace!
