    Random Police encounter

Got pulled over yesterday for a routine check, the officer goes through all the checks and tells me that they have a campaign against bikers without the right license. He pauses for a second than says "i have a present for you". All im thinking is . He goes to the back seat of his car and pulls out a duffel bag with a tyre gauge and a CD on knowing your bike says have a good day and drives off

That has to be the most random police stop i've experienced. So i just wanted to let you know (if you don't already) that they're cracking down even more on bikers and if you have any more random police encounters than feel free to share.

Were you doing anything to warrant being pulled over? I would have been making approproate noises about discrimination and not being too impressed with being pulled over for no reason other than my choice of transport frankly.

    Making noises about discrimination?

The police run targeted campaigns on a regular basis. Some months it's burglary, some months it's motorcyclists on the wrong class of license... get over yourself.

burglars are doing something wrong so your comparison fails. You should have used drink driving and even then you fail until the day they start random checks on cage drivers as well.

Didnt realise i was on myself to begin with
I wasn't making noises about discrimination just telling my story. This is my first time being pulled over on my bike in 2 years of riding so i was just letting others with the wrong licences know that they maybe targeted more than usual.

Maybe you need to get over yourself.

Random checks have been happening on every type of vehicle on the road for at least the last 28 years and 8 months.

    Get over it.

Really? What if you were driving a diesel and they were checking road user tax?

Sometimes I think we are just a little over sensitive about the whole discrimination thing.

I've not been pulled over on the bike by the police since Wellsford in 2002. I have been stopped 6 times in New Plymouth in the last few months for a breath test in the car. Seems my route home from training takes me through some regular test spots.

I'm curious; if you're on a bike do they just stick the sensor under your chin guard and get you to talk, or is it stop, get off the bike, remove helmet and talk?

Of course if you have a flip top helmet there's not problem.
