The 960 does not have the expansion port on the back for the LCD BacPac and whatever else they release for it.

So, which is the better mounting; on the helmet or on the bike? I would imagine that on the helmet would produce more shaking than a fixed rigid mount.

I've tried both. Best mount is on the bike if you want the sensation of speed and lean angle to come accross. The helmet mount doesn't have a problem with vibration etc because you will find bumps and vibrations are soaked up by your body and you tend hold your head quite steady. The pros for the helmet mount are an expansive viewpoint covering the bike and looking around at scenic things etc, but sense of lean angle and speed is lost. Due to the height of the camera above the ground things appear slower and you hold your head largely horizontal when leaning which means leaning doesn't come into the picture well. For that reason if you are camera mounting on your helmet go for a side mount not a top mount to get the lower view.

Mounting on the bike is best if you're wanting speed and lean rather than a scenic affect. Try to use a mount setup that sits directly below the camera and doesn't hold the camera out at any angle. Bumps will cause an extended camera to vibrate more.

That's not just limited to the go pro (did it with my drift). It's a battery/memory card problem and is sorted out by replacing the camera under warranty.

The one thing I dislike about the Gopro is you can't turn the lens so the camera has to be straight all the time.
Drift and contour both have rotatable lenses so you can fit them in more places.

    Nice

But i was meaning if you don't have a flat surface to attach it to or if it is slightly out you can't straighten the lens like you can on the Drift or contour.

Not sure i get your drift, no pun intended. I have a couple of wee extra arms with mine which allow it to be contorted in all sorts of directions. The curved lens on the housing can be replaced with a flat lense, mainly to get better focus under water.

I picked up a Contours action video cam. New near, Made up a mount for the handle bars. It's not a HD version but produces a not bad picture. Only gripe is that not all the video sessions have recorded. Went for a run today, the return attempt was on the card, but the first recording , going over, did not record/save. Could it be the SD card?

yes I'd read it was a replaceable under warranty issue also, but given the camera is now over 1 year old I'll be keeping it. It rarely happens and the 2 times it has happened it flicked itself back to normal picture before too long.

What i mean is if the camera is not straight you can rotate the lens so it is, as on my road bike it is attached to my wing mirror so not a straight shot.

Try flattening the battery then charge it up fully then repeat. this used to work with mine but you have to do it every time you use it.
I would still try and have a go at getting it replaced as it is a know problem.

Right, I have had a VholdR ( Contour) video camera for 6 days now. It is not a HD version, but I'm quite pleased with it. Have a homemade mount which works well. My problem is how to download/edit the clips on Microsoft Movie Maker so there is no wind noise on the clip. The Duct tape over the mic hole doesn't cut out the wind roar.

Is there a way to edit the sound out? The tutorials dont mention muteing recorded sound at all. I have tried to drag the volume control back to zero but the wind noise is still there. I tried to download a music track onto the clip but no success.

Or is there a simpler editing programme out there? I just want to cut unwanted pieces out and do away with the recorded wind noise. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Movie maker will mute clips. Click on the clip you've imported and dragged into in the timeline or storyline, now click "clip" up the top of the screen (beside file, edit etc) click audio - then click mute.

MovieMaker will split videos. Editing doesn't get much more basic. It just takes a bit of messing about to learn the program.

It's not the best for decent HD video as you can't get ride of annoying transition frames and general editing and render options are basic.

Thank you for that info. Much appreciated.

Have just uploaded my first attempt. Got 3 c & w songs added but I need to find appropriate music and learn to merge the music.
