    RF900 battery wanted

    Battery for Rf900.

I'm after a new battery for my bike. My current one is fully poked.

The current one I have is XTX9-BS.

Do I need to get the exact same brand and type or do you think any battery that is compatible with this type is fine?

Does anyone have a good place to buy them? Cheap is good but not at the expense of performance and care of my bike.

    Cheers

Get a Yuasa. They're worth the slightly extra coin.

Any good motorcycle shop should be able to sell you one but someone will be along soon to tell you one close to you.

What makes them worth the extra, simply put construction quality. They will last due to that.

Heyup! Might I modestly suggest a Shorai LFX14A1-BS12? Can you give me the year of your bike to confirm the model?

Whoops, of course if I'd checked your details I'd have noticed it is '98. The RF900 isn't listed on Shorai's website, but as it's a derivative of the GSX1100R motor, it should use the same battery. So the 14A1 will be my recommendation.

$249.00 and free shipping for KB'rs. If that sounds expensive, check my thread, "Gobsmacked". The company claims up to 4x the battery life, and a far greater kick than any other battery you will have tried. It also saves you about 3kg in weight. If you want a recommendation, ask Shaun Harris, or Craig Shirriffs or anyone here who has bought one.

Regardless of year manufactured, an RF900 will swallow the same battery. You're reference table should show that mate.

A 14A1 will crank it 'till the cows come home.

Hmm didn't realise your were dealing in these, might soon be in the market for a LFX18A1-BS12.

Mustek if you want extra life out of your battery and possibly heavy use look at these, if lead acid then Yuasa.

ok, call me ignorant but why do i need a battery that will turn my bike over for more than a dozen times? Surely if it won't start after that long its not the battery anyways/

Because, if you've turned your bike over 20 times, then suddenly realised that the fuel's "off" or needs to be on "reserve", you'll thank Christ almighty you had the forethought to buy a battery with the specs of a Shorai.

Battery shortcomings have a habit of rearing their heads at the MOST inopportune moments. I'd spend the extra couple of bucks and get a good one.

Unless you want to pass your issues on to the next owner of course.....

Edit: I'll elaborate on this totally bullshit post.

A lead/acid battery is old technology, VERY old. They work, but they're crap. Their discharge is quicker, their voltage is lower, they're shit. HOWEVER. A modern glassmat battery, will have a higher cranking ampage, sit longer and hold charge for longer. But there is a trade off.

Vehicles which require a constant voltage level while the ignition circuit is open will quite often "fault" when a glassmatt battery is added to the ignition, regardless of its CCA rating. A lead acid battery maintains a higher voltage while cranking than a glassmatt or dry battery. Some systems such as "ABS" on BMW's will "fault" while a dry battery cranks the engine, whereas a decent lead acid battery wont have the big voltage drop while cranking, therefore keeping auxillary systems "alive" while the engine turns over.

Strange but true, I've tested it.

So what is the harm in putting a cheaper battery in besides the fact it won't have as many cranks in it without being charged up again?
