    Roys Hill, 10-11 September, CANCELLED

    Hi All,

Very sorry but this weekend at Roys Hill, Hastings has been cancelled.

A local complaint to Council has made this venue unavailable this weekend.

The complaint relates to noise in relation to motorcycles.

Motorcycles are not covered in the permitted activities at the track.

Hopefully we can resolve this quickly and get back to racing.

The Kart Club is working with us to help resolve the issues.

Please remain calm and take the opportunity to spend time with friends and family during these stressful and traumatic times.

That's the same reason we can't use the Kart track at Carrs road on Christchurch and because the local residents are arseholes

Are the bikes really much louder than the Karts?

(An email I have sent off regarding Roys Hill being cancelled)

    --------------------------------

This is very disappointing news as myself and a mate were getting all
geared up and ready to head up north from Wellington. I think that the
complaint by a neighbor is very, very poor standard of judgement
considering the bikes use a noise radar in every round and do their
best to keep everyone happy. On top of this, racing at Roys Hill only
happens once a month and is very popular. So because this one neighbor
decides that 8 or 9 hours a month of background noise is unbearable,
around 30 people (not including spectators) have to miss out on an
    excellent sporting and social event.

I would like this neighbor to have a chance at reading messages like
this because I somehow think they don't understand the reality of the
situation. We are not deliberately trying to disturb the peace and I
think there are better ways of dealing with this kind of situation
than asking for racing for people across the North Island to be
cancelled. If the neighbors are unhappy with the noise then they
should confirm for themselves that the rules are being broken before
    placing a complaint.

Bottom line, if bikes are adhering to the noise regulations, which we
ARE, then there should be no issue.

    --------------------------------

I don't understand how rules can be followed carefully yet all it takes is 1 person to decide they are above the rules THEY AGREED UPON by the council.

I think the issue is that the bikes are not permitted under the current regulations.... Thus creating the 'loophole' that has occurred re their complaint ending the ability to use the track....

Yeah which is a joke. I would be very surprised if this rule wasn't changed to allow bikes there considering how successful the race meetings for bikes at Roys Hill are. They are very well run with a high level of regard to the neighbors opinions re noise. It's very disappointing that the neighbors consider this kind of action as fair.

It isn't a joke, if motorcycles aren't permitted under the "conditions of use" then apart from getting those conditions of use changed there's nothing you can do about it

It isn't necessarily "neighbours" it only needs one person to complain

Someone needs to check the 'conditions of use" and see how hard it is to get them changed or if it is possible to change them

I suspect the person/persons complaining would put in a submission against any change

Nah I'm not accusing anyone who organizes buckets, I'm just shocked that it hasn't been noticed how well bikes go off at Roys Hill. So I think it's very strange that a meeting like this would be canceled. I'm sure the kart club makes a little bit of money off the bikes and we appreciate what we have so it's definitely surprising. It would make a lot more sense if the club was making no money off the bikes, but even then the club is getting a lot of publicity off these events.

I'm sure they are just following 'rules' but so were/are the bikes. I would like to think that bikes get covered in the permitted activities very soon. If I was an outsider looking in I would be impressed at the turn out and impressed that there aren't dipshits tearing up the carpark or vandalizing the club.

I suspected it was a neighbor because it's a local complaint. It seems the most likely but it could have been someone else, sure. Either way unless there has been some serious misbehavior in relation to the race meetings for bikes, I'm surprised a complaint was made.

I think the neighbour would be happier if there was no racing at all including karts. Similiar story down at Levels (Timaru) even though its next to an air strip the number of race meets that can be run is limited due to complaints. The fact the track was there before they decided to build in the area somehow seems irrelevant.
Really hope you get a positive outcome regarding Roys Hill, but having seen what has happened elsewhere it seems very unlikely. To get bikes added for use, would need a public consent and if some say no, you have very little chance of getting it approved.
