ZX6 cutting out at 9,000 rpm?

I have a 2000 ZX6 Ninja. It runs sweetly to about 8,000 rpm. I just did a 2 hour trip on it, but around 9000rpm It is cutting in and out. Like turning off the ignition then turning it back on. I am assuming its a problem with the CDI. If it was fuel it would cough and splutter (it doesn't).

Anyone know a way to test the cdi. Can it be repaired (reliably) or do I need to replace it.?

Any other thoughts on what the problem might be?

    Cheers
    Steve

A partially blocked air filter or intake will stop it revving usually recognized by a stuttering around certain high rpm.!
Suck, Squeeze, Bang, Blow aren’t just the 4 cycles of an engine
