    SMC Blood Run

That's right little riders, the time is once again upon us to relinquish that red gold for an awesome cause. The need for blood is constant. In New Zealand, 150,000 whole blood units will need to be donated in the next 12 months to meet clinical needs.

This Blood Run coincides with the 60th BRONZ Blood run, so badges will be for sale ($10). The SMC rubber chicken is also scheduled to make an appearance... who will be awarded the poultry prize this time round???

    When: Tuesday October 18 - 17.30 -19.30
Where: Epsom Blood Donor Centre, 71 Great South Road (Behind Dilworth School)
Why: For the cookies, bragging rights and to help save lives.
    Contact: Stephen Dodge 0212685528

Hope to see as many of you there as possible!

Incredible... I donated earlier today, after you made the post Hanne, but only seen it now...

Oh well... only 83 odd days before I get rung again...

Good work! Well, if you would like a badge we can still arrange that... One week either side is very nearly almost with 'us' :P

Nobody has had trouble since we started doing this but I wouldn't recommend going for a 5 hour ride after donating

As Squiggles said, just don't push it too hard. You've lost 470ml of blood, your iron count is quite low (one of the reasons you can only donate every 3 months), but your body has around 5L of blood and only needs 4.

Enjoy pulling the patch off later that night... most painful part of the whole process, which is otherwise pain free

I'd be keen but I hate the thought of having a needle go in my vein ...makes me feel when I see my blood running out.

Come along anyway. Squiggles has nearly fainted in the past, but that hasn't stopped him. It's not as bad as most people fear.

Besides, you never know when you might need blood. Like your next Coro.

    Plus: free cookies!
