    Canterbury Sunday Winter Rides

Anyway Peoples, interest has been expressed so here goes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The ride will be held in conjunction with Flip's Classic Ride. At this stage the "Classic" is proposed to be on the first Sunday of the month with the "Sunday" ride on the other Sundays. Both rides are weather dependent and a cancellation will be posted on both threads on the day by 09.00.

As BK is not yet viable again, we will meet on the road outside Sydenham McDonalds on Hastings Street West. 11.00am for a 11.30 departure. When BK becomes viable again we will go back.

This is a social ride and an opportunity for a ride during the weekend. The destination will generally be a pub or café for lunch, a drink and a chat. The object is to have a good lunch and enjoy ourselves.

This is not a race from point A to point B. If you want to "see how fast you can go" then please just go somewhere else.

Learners are most welcome on these runs, just let Flip or me know who you are so we can assign a helper to ride with you at your pace.

Ideally the route will be the same as the WNR however depending on the weather and road conditions the destination will change as required bearing in mind the earthquake damage suffered by such a lot of our favourite spots.

    Duvauchelles-Akaroa.
    Oxford.
    Greta valley.
    Wets Route.
    Okains Bay???
And anywhere else anybody can come up with.

The rules are the same as the WNR:

    1. Rider Responsibility
It is the responsibility of each and every rider to ride safely and within their abilities. If any rider acts in a dangerous manner then they will be asked to leave. Remember, you not only put yourself at danger but also the other riders and the general public. If you do not understand this then do not come.

    2. Rider Assistance
At the car park we’ll ask that riders who would like some one on one help will be asked to put their hands up and we’ll ask some of the more experienced riders to provide that help. Please don’t be shy. This is an excellent opportunity to ride with and learn from people who have many decades of riding under their belts.

    3. Leader
The cruisy group will have a lead rider appointed each week. Obviously it will be someone with reasonable skill so as to not piss everyone off. The leader will stop at the pre-determined regroup points and wait for the entire group to arrive before departing. Please give the leader a little space. If they are not travelling fast enough for you then overtake them and leave the group. We will see you at our destination.

    4. Tail End Charlie
A TEC will also be determined as a safety measure. No body will ever be left behind on these runs.

    5. Rossi clones
If you wish to do your own thing then feel free, but please leave a bit earlier, before the rest of the group!! We'll see you at the pub (and we expect some beers waiting for us when we arive). There's nothing worse than someone trying to be Rossi and carving up the slower riders to get to the front. That's when accidents happen. Leave first, ride hard and do not place the other's at risk. If we find you in a ditch we will provide first aid until the ambulance arives, but do not expect any sympathy on the web afterwards. If we find you talking to Mr Plod we will take and post photos.

Disclaimer: Neither myself, nor any other participant is responsible for another rider's actions. Each rider is responsible for their own riding.

Most of this was copied from Pheonixgtr, thanks.

First ride to Akaroa, via Dyers pass and Gebbies Pass, regroups at Millars Road and Little River. Lunch of fish and chips on the waterfront.

Can someone educate me on how to get this thread to appear on the home page please?????????

went over to akaroa on the weekend - bit of new seal yes, but was still a great ride. would imagine that by next weekend the seal will have bedded down nicely and be ok. was nice to ride the hill without a lot of traffic (no campervans) and still no grit on the hill
interesting things happen above 10,000 rpm.....not if you have a ZRX tho

I would say yes. (in that it usually is open). If in doubt, phone them. Its a Shell station and the signage says "L'Essence" which is really lame.

Ten???? Of our number had lunch and sparkling conversation in Akaroa today. Either side of lunch was spent in the joys of motorcycling on a glorious autumn day. Thanks to all of you for your company today.

    Next week Greta Valley???????

Probably meet somewhere north of the CBD, I will post closer to the day.

didn't get on the bike til later but did the ride to akaroa, getting there about 4pm. saw you lot pootling back. was a fantastic day for ride for sure. and didn't get a ticket from the copper over there who i guess must have been focused on speeding as he ignored a car overtaking 2 campervans on a double yellow line. not a dangerous thing to do i suppose.

I'll meet you guys in Woodend. The weather doesn't look promising though. South westerlies with showers clearing. Hopefully that will change to Sunny with a high of 23, light winds easing
