So FEAR gives americans the right to massacre rare and protected animals?

    http://www.stuff.co.nz/world/america...eeper-suicides

...I can understand keeping the public safe and all that....but to immediately give a shoot to kill order before even trying! to organise the recapture these beautiful, rare (and innocent!) animals?

Such a waste.....I bet there are some american Sherrifs etc sitting around gloating about how they got to gun down a tiger today.

And I thought we were fighting to SAVE these animals before they dissapear completely.

umm just think when else would they get the change to go a big game hunt like that
They would be trying to save the poor endangered animals like we try to save the possums because they are endangered in Aussie.

this reply is tough in cheek, just in case you wondered

Whilst I get where you're coming from the sherrif is there to protect the citizens (human I am picking).... It is absolutely disgusting that their (past) owner could even think of putting the animals lives at risk but I believe that the 'authorities' acted as responsibly as they could.

BTW - I LOVE animals, mostly more than humans but you have to weigh up the risks. Where would these animals be housed and how would they be cared for if they had been able to be captured without harm?? Remember that this was in the middle of the night too.

Completely right, the ''past'' owner knew the fate of those cats when he released them...

Sure, it's a basic human trait, his final act was one of control.

Yup, as I said...I do understand the need to protect innocent citizens and all that.
But to kill so many rare animals is just shocking!

Surely they could have made some hasty calls and got shit loads of traq guns etc brought in and made a good effort to save them...instead of allowing the arsehole dead owner to seal their fate....after all, its not the animals fault that they had a shitty life and got released.

...but hay...im just a massive animal lover that saw this and felt sorry for them.

FEAR.....gives US americans the right to shoot at absolutely everything......no brains but guns

no difference if they shoot animals, other humans, or just at stuff

it is their GAWD given right to own arms and use them

as for the animals, they bring no profit, only incur costs? too much hassle...and work
    you still need to ask?????

If you read it properly you will see that they tried to tranquilize them, and the shoot to kill order is only if they cross the interstate and most where kept on the farm.

I think the ones that need a good slapping are the ones that let people keep exotic pets, these are wild animals and so should be in the wild not in some cage, no matter how big it is. (the cage not the animal)

according to the news piece he had been charged with 11 counts of animal cruelty and still allowed to keep them. WTF is up with that? That country sure is full with some dumb people.

Seconded - I actually shed a tear when I saw the lion enclosure in Rotorua. I wouldn't have put tabby in a cage that small.
Likewise I refuse to see water parks where dolphins are in tanks. Having swum with them in the ocean....no tank is big enough for their in inquisitive minds.
Animals are not for you viewing pleasure.
I'm not really an animal lover either. Just someone who respects things when they should.

Correct, they're for eating. Even dolphins and whales if needs must, or they're farmed sustainably.

Sounds like it might have been a case of mercy killings. No sense forcing animals to live in suffering, no matter how endangered they are.
