Just so there's no confusion Shaun...this is why I love Stoner so much. This is from Steve Parrish...he's been round a while. Been there, done that...seen it all sort of thing.

The session had started on a fully wet track, yet with rays of sun coming through a few dry patches started to form as the warm-up progressed. And it was Spies, who on his very last lap before the chequered flag came out posted the quickest time of 2.06’906 ahead of Repsol Honda Team’s Pedrosa. Ducati Team’s Valentino Rossi, who is renowned for his performances in the wet, put in a good showing to finish the morning in third.
Yamaha’s pole sitter Jorge Lorenzo set the fourth fastest time of the morning, ahead of Monster Yamaha Tech 3’s Andrea Dovizioso. Power Electronics Aspar’s Aleix Espargaró put in a great performance to finish as top CRT in eighth, and even beat some prototype machines on the way. Many riders will not see this session as terribly relevant, as the race as 2pm local time is expected to be held in the dry, with no more rain expected. However, should conditions change once more, then the warm-up gives a good indication as to what could be expected.

Whoever is winning at the time, beating a world champ may just mean the champ is passed their prime. It's not like the 100m where there is a benchmark to compete against.

However, this much debate is surely a good sign, as it means the competition is close enough for some good racing
