    Denmark introduces fat tax

"The new tax is intended to reduce people's intake of fatty foods." ... Why do these things always have to be dealt with via taxation? We know that those who like fatty foods will just pay the extra and carry on, I guess that's the point. Is there nothing better than financial penalty? and on food of all things.

Yeah. Sorry about that. They're after me, see, you guys are just what they call collateral damage.

Can't remember where it started but later on it was the day I bought a diesel van. Thought I was beeing a frugal wee pixie. The next day they proposed extra taxes on diesel vehicles.

Big bikes: Tax the fuck outa them fuckers.

    Cheesburgers, now.

Still, look on the bright side, they're running out of shit to tax.

Economics run things at the end of the day, the bottom line is the bottom line.

If it actually does help unhealthy people, then hey. But, we've been taxing smokes and grog for a while.... but it dont really change habits unless very poor.

Realistically and practically, the cheap fatty shit food will now cost more and the healthier more expensive stuff will become affordable. So, Subway type franchises will see significant gains over burger bars if correctly implemented. Greater volume of healthier meals should bring in competition, and a cheaper cost to the consumer compared to todays boutique market for healthy fast food.

Same as everything, if they can make money they will, it will do nothing to reesolve any issues at all, same as the man made warming scam and taxation via B.S

I'm all for it if the money goes into the health system. Fat cunts are a much bigger drain on the health system than smokers. Smokers get the shit taxed out of them. Fatty's don't.

where is an example of Taxation solving societies issues/ problems/behaviours ?
I dont know the answer but does it?

    Smokers still smoke
    Drinkers still drink (chin chin)
People still use heaps of petrol

all 3 above are heavily taxed and nothing has changed.

Education changes things however, i.e Smoking is reducing ?

Government has to pretend they're doing it for the good and the taxation pays for the education. You know, just like the money from traffic fines goes into road safety......

I couldn't see that that would end up being the case... unless they taxed it harder than $4 per kilo... probably have to be about $50/kilo (asshat figure) before it would bring it inline with the healthier stuff.

Aren't they putting that in place for animals a la ETS? Would politicians have to pay a higher levy for all of the bullshit they produce

That's what really concerns me... we see nothing out of it other than, hey it's bad for you, don't do it. Why not make it illegal to produce fatty foods? Is it because it would put industries at risk and therefore jobs? Why hasn't the food industry cleaned up their act up by now. And what of those that are genetically fat (myth?)?

In my experience, most if not all fatty's simply eat too much too often. There were no fatty's in Auschwitz after all...

They're a huge drain on the health system...and should be made to get on the scales at the supermarkets.

    Grossly obese...+ 50% please.

    A fatty?...+ 30% please.

    Chearfully chubby?...+ 15% please.

It is cheaper in the long run to pay for gastric bypass operations rather than let them be obese long term, perhaps they could use the fat tax to fund that
