Does correct battery charging confirm regulator all good?

hi, gsx 750 1986. charging system, was told by bike shop stator and regulator toast.Put in new stator and battery (it was sad), but left old regulator in.Tested it and its charging fine at 14.3 dc going into the battery.Does this automatically mean that infact the regulator is not toast, big issue as its $550 for new one.
I know there is a test specifically for the regulator, but i am not good will electrics and frankly it looks well complicated to carry out.Thought i would seek the shortcut.Any bright sparkies out there able to assure me reg is fine.

There will be no nightmare loss to the french, the mighty all blacks will prevail.

Check the charging voltage at 5000rpm. Any higher than 14.9 and it's stuffed.

Another regulator could be wired in though instead of paying $550 for one (which is ridiculous)

Oh my god $550 is insane. Check wemoto.com if you find you do need one - be about $130 landed.

Shows how we have been ripped off for years.I remember 20 years ago having to pay $250 for a rear tyre on gs 400 -continental-.

I paid $20NZ for my Regulator on the ZZR600, delivery included. It's for a Honda of some description and has worked fine.

A Suzuki manual will tell you if it's too low, but in my opinion that's okay. Any lower than 13.7v and I'd be testing the stator.
What kind of charge are you getting at lower revs, say 1500rpm.
Also, try running the same test with the lights on.

Just tracked down manual, they say good range at 5,000 on high beam is 13.5 to 15.5.
So mine is at the lower end or just below.Does .1 or .2 make a heap of difference.
The stator was fitted by bike shop, would the lowish readings indeed point at reg.If so do i run a real chance of frying charging system if not replacing reg/rec.cheers

im on mobile at the mo so cant link it but theres heaps of good shit on the gooogle for testing. Just need a cheapy multimeter to test the voltages and that the diodes are still alive... good guides will take you thru step bystep and its a piece of piss, less daunting that you think.

Lots of places that missing 0.1 of a volt could be hiding. Check that all of the electrical connectors from the stator->RR->battery and earths etc are nice and clean.

If you are capable of making the measurements you and ducatilover have been discussing, why not use the chart in the sticky post at the top of this forum? you just need to do the same as you have been doing, but it makes sure you follow a procedure and test everything.....
