    Kymco parts?

    Hi

    Does anyone know where to get Kymco Parts in NZ, some of the generic chinese parts, are not quite the same, there is no place in Auckland anymore, and the guys, who are listed for parts officially from the kymco website, don't seem to call me back ever ( and yes, this was before seasonal period) Im only after a stupid cylinder gasket, i have some gasket paper, so i might resort to shaping my own.

    They have vanished. Gone out of business, thats where i used to get parts, in fact the only reason i got a Kymco was knowing they were there.

    Ive emailed some places in Australia, i think ill just have to wait until everyone is back at work, and take the bus for now.

    A head gasket can be made from a thin sheet of copper pretty quickly. After cutting it out ideally you would anneal it and then after a squirt of copper gasket stuff you jam it all together. The base gaskets can be made from any suitable thickness cardboard and coated with something like Yamabond #5. I've done it heaps of times and it works fine.
    Today I just reassembled my Yamaha scooter engine with the old head gasket which I gave a squirt of the copper gasket stuff. I used it all the time on my bucket. The base gasket doesn't need to be paper, it could be thin alloy. I actually prefer an alloy or steel base gasket as it doesn't compress.

    Thanks, yes it was the base gasket i needed, i managed to track down some proper gasket material, the old one had an the company name, and i managed to source some scraps from a supplier, so after a few hours i made a new one, seems to be all good, someone had overtightened the head by the looks of it, and it caused a split in the gasket by the chain drive bit, so oil was leaking out and down the engine and onto the back wheel and brakes, could have been lethal.

    Seems to be all good now, i had a service manual so had all the correct torque settings.

    Scootling in Grey lynn, Auckland advised they can get parts and are doing the warranty stuff on them, in case anyone else is interested, parts take a few weeks to come. ( i was in a hurry)

    Shuk Engineering (http://shuk.co.nz/) are useful people to keep in mind for gaskets, including head gaskets.

    They have made Suziki Impulse and FZR400 head gaskets for me in the past - much cheaper than OEM.
