Problems on our roads - with effwits like this.

A driver caught drink driving twice in the same night told Rotorua police: "I didn't kill anyone so what's the problem?''

The driver was stopped about 8.30pm on Sunday at a checkpoint on Lake Rd in Rotorua and gave a breath alcohol reading of 960 micrograms of alcohol per litre of breath. The adult limit is 400mcg.

Senior Sergeant Denton Grimes of the Rotorua police said the man told officers he had driven from the other side of the city "no problem''.

He had his licence suspended on the spot for 28 days because his reading was more than 600 mcg.

The man was caught again more than three hours later at another checkpoint driving another car. He gave a reading of 757mcg and told police: "I didn't kill anyone so what's the problem?''.

WHY oh why should guys like this not have their eyes gouged out?

I for one don't think he should be given the chance to do this yet again.

Jail time should be imposed IMO, that has got to be worth 6 months, needs to be enough to make him think twice...or cleaning the public toilets on say Stewart Island with nothing but a tooth brush and a leaky tent to sleep in for a few years.
Nail your colours to the mast that all may look upon them and know who you are.

Could give him more to drink, right there at the side of the road. Make it his own choice, of course.

    The Amy Winehouse solution.

More seriously - yeah, that should already be time in jail. Like they do in Norway.

(I gotta admit the OP made me think a little about my own attitude to my own "tollerance" level over the open-road speed limit.)

Dont panic guy, they justice system will see that he gets done good and properly.
80 hours community work and a $400 fine will really make him think about his actions . . .

C'mon, there is no Judge in New Zealand as tough as that ... it's only two times, early days yet! Some have up to 8 convictions!

We could take his licence off him. But as he is not bothered by the law, he drives anyway.

We cant effectively fine him, as he is on a benefit, and will simply ask WINZ for a food allowance equal to the few rubles he pays off his fine.

We could crush his car, but chances are its not his, or it is being paid off, and the Mom and Pop investors in the finance company become the real losers, as the profit they hoped for from their investment gets gobbled up by the finance companies lawyers attempting to protect their security.

And if he is a young person, he is just as likely to flee, as he knows he is a faultless driver at speed and can easily and safely just drive away. I on the other hand am just as likely to be driving home from picking the grandkids up from school and I will carelessly get in his way.

We can put an alcohol interlock in his car. He will just get a party car without one, or will get his mate to blow in the interlock.

Or, we could actually, eventually lock repeat offenders up.

But its New Zealand. The politicians will simply add more laws with the same penalties that already don't work. We will get compulsory third party insurance, carry proof of ownership, punitive fines for not being licenced or registered, and will wring our hands when nothing changes.
David must play fair with the other kids, even the idiots.

For a start, maybe drunk people who commit an offence should spend the night in a cell rather than be let free still pissed to make the same stupid decisions.....

Your right what an "effwit"! he "didn't kill anyone" & already drove "half the city" yet the cop still hassles him & takes his licence.
I'm with you, the cop needs his badge revoked so he can't do this to anyone again! Bloody "effwit"
