Auckland Marathon in one-piece and helmet

I'm going to (attempt to) run the Auckland Marathon (42.2km) in full leathers and a full face helmet. I'm doing this to raise money and awareness for the Muscular Dystrophy Association of NZ.
Please show your support for me by donating to the MDA. Follow the links on our website, www.nearlythere.co.nz

I'm not sure I can do it. The Rotorua half marathon last weekend was tough enough.... The heat in the last 5k was almost too much. This time i'll drill a single 8mm hole in the top of the helmet so i can squirt water into it without taking it off.

No doubt this is a very silly thing to do. However, it's a choice I've made and it's the fact most of us have a choice that i'm trying draw attention to. Folks living with Muscular Dystrophy don't get to make choices about how they use their body.

    Do it

Although, adding something like airpipes to go round you head to let fresh air in wouldnt be a bad idea.

You managed 21ks in the ridiculous heat in Rotorua, So whats stopping you?

The only thing that will stop me is the heat! I expect it to be quite a bit warmer for this one. I'll be out there into the heat of the day this time too.

The real reason you are wearing the helmet, is so you can get a lift halfway through on a motorbike so you can cheat. Isnt it?

If you weren't so soft you'd be wearing the boots as well

I strongly recommend having intervals where people will pour ice-cold water into your suit, to keep it sopping from the get-go.

You may have made 20k's, but dehydration and heat stroke will slap your shit, lol.
Some people just can't seem to comprehend that they do not have the right to be unoffended in their lives.

    Thumbs up

Good as gold, thanks for looking out for me (and everyone else) today.

Ran the first 20 odd km, walked the next 22. It got too hot to run. Excellent support crew kept hydration and cooling requirements at hand. The last 6-7k i was stopping to soak helmet and put ice into leathers every 500m. No way i could have done it alone.. went thru 5l of drinking water, 15l went into helmet.
