    FXR150 gearbox issues

    Hey,

I did a quick search and didn't see anything about this for an FXR at least. My gearbox is starting to shit itself. Slips out of gear all the time when it never used to. Linkage isn't sloppy. Regular oil and oil filter changes don't help. So.... what have other people done? Should I undercut the gears? Or is it best to replace. I think I heard it might be the selectors even.

    Cheers

Haven't heard of this on an FXR up to now but it sounds like a typical selector fork problem.

Hmm ok. What should I do about it? Does it mean new parts?

How many km's has your FXR done now?

To inspect the gearbox, you have to split the cases off the engine, this isn't a small job. Because the crankshaft is exposed during this job (you literally basically take the whole damn engine apart), you might consider doing a "rod" kit, which replaces the crankshaft pin, bearing, thrust bearings and a whole connecting rod, essentially giving you a whole new crankshaft. This probably wouldn't be a bad idea if you have a large amount of km's on your engine, especially with some "secret" new things you doing.

FXR150.co.nz used to sell a cheap enough kit, but they look like they have ran out of stock (Perhaps you could contact the owner if you wanted to do this)

There should be enough blown FXRs to find a gearbox if needs be. The dogs on the gears being rounded are another option & undercutting will help there. I can look at gearset if you rip it apart, but no idea where to get parts. A mate undercut a gear that was just going on my old trailbike years ago with a careful application of grinder. But that had only started to wear & you have to be careful to keep things equal loading. Also if truly undercut, check that the shimming is ok so doesn't pull the gears too close to each other.
Don't you look at my accountant.

You can drop the exhaust side valve guide seals if they are the ones you are after. I have none in ether of my engines. Head gasket just poo it up and re use it. Does this mean you are coming to the GP now?

Cheers, I managed to get the parts I needed. Haha nah man would rather spend my money thrashing an R6 around Taupo than a bucket. Maybe one day I will. Half the fun of Taupo would be the shit talking and piss up anyway I bet, which I still can't afford at the moment so will have to miss out.

No I normally drink 3 ciders and halfway through the 4th I drop it on the ground, therefore I never get to the throw up stage.
