    Triumph tuning guide?

    Hi all,

Is there anyone out there who can walk me through some Triumph tuning?
Recently bought my triple and a new pipe, i have my laptop/ECU connection set up, only I'm a little apprehensive to fiddle too much!
It would be cool to be in contact with someone who's done it all before and can give me the low down

I could go to the shop, but that way I wouldn't learn - happy to pay or whatever

    I live in central 09

    Cheers!

    G'day,

Owl knows his stuff - so message him here.

If you simply want a foolproof sequence to fire up TuneECU, connect and reflash with a new tune to suit your new pipe, here's my detailed instructions.

In my opinion - the TuneECU instructions aren't very detailed. I followed them but it left my ECU in program mode and the bike wouldn't start. BTW - mine's a 2010 speed triple with Keihin ECU. Yours might be an older Sagem.

I'd recommend NOT fiddling with the tables and just using the appropriate tune for your ECU (VIN range) and pipe.

    Plug in cable
    Start TuneECU
Pull headlight fuse (save battery - Keihin ECUs don't like a voltage drop)
Turn on ignition (do not start bike)
    Connect from TuneECU
Read your map (to back it up if you haven't already)
    Open your new map file
    Download to the bike
When finished - select disconnect from the menu. This is important you do this before turning off the ignition as it "closes" the program mode on the ECU (mistake I made)
    Turn off the ignition
    Put headlight fuse back in
    Wait 10 - 15 seconds
    Turn on ignition
    Reconnect with TuneECU
Select TPS Reset (takes about 30 seconds for the menu item to come up). The TPS reset is instantaneous
Once reset and with Tune ECU still connected - start your bike
Watch the TPS indicator at the bottom left corner of the TuneECU screen. When it goes green (after about 5 - 8 minutes) the ECU has baselined the TPS
    Disconnect ECU
    Turn off bike
    Disconnect computer from bike

Ride and see how it goes!

Right-o, your instructions are MUCH better than the TuneECU ones- Cheers!

    Question time!

    Looking here...

My VIN is in the 147291 - 207554 range, I don't believe it has the secondary air injection fitted (how would I know?), so I would go for the 955cc Speed Triple from VIN 147921 to 207554 with aftermarket exhaust (TORS)?

The pipe is a Trident carbon like this, except it's mounted low (for the time being, until the link tube they forgot to send me turns up... 6 weeks... long story!!!) - if it does arrive, I can't see a high mount map.. whatta you reckon?

    Cheers!

I went high with the Daytona and had no problems...at the same time had new headers made going from 39mm to 42mm and changed from a K&N airfilter to a Pipercross airfilter, however I am running a Tuneboy programe,

As for the secondary air injection heres a link

Cheers guys, but that's not quite the case. I've only used TuneEcu to download a map to the Bonneville.

As for my bike, Kerry (TripleFourensics) did my tune using TuneBoy and I don't fiddle with it. I just play around the edges.

    I have questions!

I couldn't get the TPS to reset, the indicator wouldn't go green even after 10 mins. Ideas?

Also, I've noticed the bike's now backfiring, very minutely while idling and also while decelerating down through the gears. Too much gas.
Can I use the long term fuel trim to tweak this?

    G'day,

    I recommend posting on here:
    http://www.triumphrat.net/ecm-and-fi...ps-and-tricks/

The guys there know a truck load more than I do.

I've downloaded twice to mine and each time the TPS light came on within 20 seconds as per my instructions. I was told not to touch the throttle when starting the bike up (that is - just thumb the starter to be sure - don't grab the throttle with your hand when thumbing the starter).

This thread describes a guy who did some fiddling and the TPS light didnt' come on. might be relevant:

    It’s been a while.
Plug it in and hit the TPS reset.
Start bike and do not touch the throttle.
Indicator should go green once it’s re-adapted.

My one had a dicey stepper motor that caused it to fail to re-set, manual idle cable and the problem is no more.
