Firstly Who the hell is steve and when did he give any good points? I'm guessing you are referring to scouse who made absolutely no points apart from along the lines of "who the hell do you think you are asking for support for this opportunity?"

To answer your points, yes we have some goals set for this year (I thought this was pretty obvious by the fact that I have said we are committed to certain series in NZ), Yes we have a budget but as Choppa has rightly said, if you want to play at the top of NZ racing most can't do that without external support (read sponsorship), and finally, like I have said..its not whats most important to me that matters when you have responsibilities to others who have helped me along the way. We have commitments here FIRST and then if possible we will look at this new opportunity.

Haha I would not either mate, BUT you got on here to the ramble zone and started this dude, and as I have about 20 years more experience at the game, I think I know a wee bit more than you do dude, and each and every one of my sponsors since I started racing in 1897 are still there for me, so Guess I must have done some thing write with money ( There Money)

    Good luck though mate

Put your mouth where the money currently is then and get the results in NZ first, before trying to go on a holiday for fun, and fun it is ONLY!!! You know there is NO future for you over there!

You confuse me Shaun?? What do you think I am doing? Last season I ended up in #7 in 600cc and this year we would like to better that. I AM putting my mouth where my money is more so than most I would say (especially a few contributors on this wonderful forum). As for having fun, I actually have fun when I'm going faster and improving my skills...so as far as having a 'holiday' and whether or not there is a 'future' for me over there who the hell are you to determine this?! How do you think I got offered this ride???Its called networking mate....something good comes from it usually. I would think you would be positive about this opportunity that has been offered to me as it would most likely open up more doors for the future for NZ motorcycle road racing as a whole... despite popular opinion, I understand its not all about me, rather its ALL about promotion!

Marcus, I was referring to Steve Bagshaw (SteveyB), who posted earlier.. He usually posts some salient thoughts.

You are getting a bit precious about this - you are currently placed #7 in NZ in 600 production, possess two bikes, are mortgaged and financed to the hilt and are now asking for help to go to Germany to race around a track. Good on you for asking for help, but dont get too upset when others ask if you have a correct perspective on where your priorities lie.

If you were 18 and already had a credible success and showed promise, then sponsors may be more interested. If you are sunstantially older than that and have mid field results rather than at the pointy end - then you may have a challenge.

If you really have the desire to achieve this, then you would find a way to do it yourself - afterall, nobody has a more vested interest in your future than yourself.

I hate it when I start a thread with the best of intentions and it goes all pear shaped!! I can see both sides of the coin on this one but Marcus didnt start the thread asking if you think its in his best interest to compete over there, he was just asking if you had any ideas to raise some funds......

Your comments should be re worded ie....

If you win the NZ nationals will put you in a good position to raise funds.

    Raffles etc

    Get a mortgage

    Get a second job

    K Road

    etc etc etc

Im not one to speak but if you can make comments positive then they would be more productive and maybe others reading it could get some inspiration.

Most fund raising ideas would have already been tried and tested anyway and at the end of the day its just lots and lots of hard work to raise money there is no quick or easy fix

top method to piss off the current sponsors that are supporting him eh?

I think we could all encourage Biggles in a more positive way than how this thread is going.
I suggest that at the next meeting just after the riders briefing we drag him out behind the dunnies and kick the shit out of him. That should leave him in doubt as to our love and support for this fellow racers aspirations. While we are at it, give his trailer nuts a few turns for good measure. Some of you mean bastards on here need a phuckin hug!

Precious...passionate....I would express my involvement and my reasons to be much closer to the latter. As for others asking about my perspective on things and where my priorities lay I really don't give a rats on what these people think...if I had listened to some of the crap people had told me what I couldn't do up to now, I never would have managed a national placing at all. I will spell it out again for those that still don't get it MY PRIORITIES LIE FIRST AND FOREMOST TO MY CURRENT SPONSORS (and I will be competing at the Tri Series / Nationals regardless of Germany).

What are you saying I'm old????? heaven forbid!!! Hell mate, I'm very new to this racing gig and have only been racing for 3 years. I hadn't put a leg over a bike until I was 30, a very short 7 years ago! Yet here we are 3 years into my twilight racing career with a #7 on the bike. I'm not bragging about how fast I am (there are plenty faster), but I will brag about how involved and committed I am!

Finding sponsors and keeping them is always hard and most racers don't understand that these people that decide to become involved in sponsorship deals ONLY want return on investment. If this means being at the front of the pack then this is what they want....in New Zealand it is very easy to give excelent sponsorship exposure without being right up the front. This is mainly due to pretty poor media coverage at any rate so its not much of a game changer. If you can show you are providing the exposure they are looking for, these sponsors really don't give a flying fuck what position you come...appart from wanting to see you succeed. Its a business transaction and not free money.

I really have the desire to achieve this but I know there is no way I can afford to do it financially myself. This was the original purpose of this thread...it was asking for ideas on how to get the money I need. If some rich fella wants to help so be it, if I need to hold fundraisers, so be it...I never expect a free lunch and I resent the innuendo from some that i do.
