I actually thought mating season was over but it looks like its not the thing I cant understand is this purple tipped wing duck used the blue tipped wing ducks nest to lay her eggs.Yes she sure has got her hands full when she waks off all the ducklings follower her but shes very protective this duck she actually always looks back to check and sort of pushed the ducklings close with her beck.

But when mum duck has the ducklings under her some of them are sitty on the side close to her but shes always keeping them close with her beck.

They are not here at the moment I saw them walking down the drive heading for a swim in the big swimming pool down the back in the retirement appartments.

That duckling must not have a mum duck because if it did and you touched her ducklings she would reget looking after them it's like you can't go near her nest when shes on it or the eggs are there you can't touch anything..

Not to sure about the snails but I do know the ducklings eat worms when they are young I have seen them do it.
I have some bad news (little bit up setting) Mum duck came back yesterday with 3 of her ducklings missing the boy next door (disharn) and I had not seen her for a few days she looked everywhere for them.

Poor mum duck arrived and all she did was walk around the whole lawn everywhere and by her nest where she layed her eggs she was quaking out so loud it was so obveous she was looking for her 3 lost ducklings it was quite up setting to see.She was also really hungry so we gave her a huge feed.I spose she did pretty well in a way having 11 ducklings and only loosing 3 they were only 3 days when she dissapaired down the back and we only saw her now and then.

She was actually being tht prtective of the other ducklings at the time of walking around looking for the ones that she had lost she went to bite my nextdoor neoughbour and he wasn't even standing close.

Maybe for the best? Can a mother duck actually raise 11 at once? I've always figured they had a big brood because predators would likely as not whack the majority.

Remember I explained before all of those ducklings weren't hers she layed the ones in the bottom of the nest and then covered them with a thick layer of feathers to keep them warm she wasn't there all the time. Then the duck that first made that nest the other duck layed her eggs in.The second duck came along and layed her eggs on top of the other eggs. The blue wing tipped duck layed 5 and the other duck layed the other eggs.

The duck that had all the 11 ducklings here has none now she came around again yesterday the boy next door saw both female ducks at school but with different ducklings they both different coloured ones the 11 ducklings were different coloured. One duck had 5 and the other had the rest but now the duck has lost all her ducklings should of seen her looking in the nest for her lost ducklings quaking out so loud.Funny thing the boy next door saw her at school with no ducklings and she was with the other duck who had hers she was so shitty with the purple tipped duck Disharn recons she must of been thinking you have stolen my ducklings give me them back!!!!

But apprantly the duck is really fat again but the nest is getting throwen out tomorrow we think its the best.
