    2 stroke CDI etc?

Ok.... I have no idea about pissing around with bikes, if I want to modify something usually I would buy a part thats made to fit the bike and I dont have to think about it but this bucket stuff is much more of a challenge! A, Because I dont want to spend much and B, Its pretty hard to actually find aftermarket stuff.

My question is can you just swap lets say a CR80 ignition system, stator, flywheel and CDI onto my CRM80 engine or does the CDI have to be specifically mapped to that engine?

I dont even know if I need to upgrade the ignition but im intersted to know anyway

    And maybe he paid no.4?

No idea what the CRM module is like. Maybe it just lets it rev in which case all good. A CR80 would be a good guess. Flywheel may be a better size if the CRM one is big, ie size of case.

You can put a degree wheel on it, or just look at the std markings & put a strobe light on it & run it. Ideally you would have some way of seeing the revs so you'd have to borrow an inductive tacho, but the std marks on the flywheel should stay in the strobe at 12000. If they are heavily retarding before that then it would do to replace it with something better.

But isn't it nice to have to use your brain & think about these things? Far more interesting than the usual durge of life, work etc. Or silly irrelevant things like how to ride faster.

I paid $850 for my FXR (bucket commuter) all I needed to do was put race numbers on it and 'hey presto'!

Yup that went over my head, so in theory could I put a whole CR80 ignition system in and away she goes?

    Actually 'Hey Presto I'm Broken'......

But no, when I first started bucket racing with it I was more than competitive in 'B' Grade on it. As was Malcolm in 'A' grade at the time too.... Is an awesome commuter as well. Must have tiger blood......

in theory. But there may not be any real problem with the CRM one, - no idea. On the other hand it may retard the hell out of it after 10 thou to stop junior riding it wide open stuck in 2nd all day till Dad teaches him to change gear.

Can't promise the CR one is suited, but it is likely to be closer

would this work? Who knows, ran a similar setup on my H100, but low cost risk? Can't tell you if the taper is the same for CRM.

Actually Sketchy has my old one but it was broken but may tell you if taper still right if he has it.

    Thanks for the info mate!

So when you say the cr80 might be closer.... What makes it closer and further away lol does it come down to timing issues or something?

Can I get NZQA credits for this??

Just get the thing built and take it to the track and see what works and what doesn't, otherwise you may well spend hours dicking about with things like the ignition only to to find it doesn't work or if it does that something way more critical makes your endeavours to that stage pointless.
we had plans to ride an untested bike in the two hour this weekend but after we both rode it decided that the gearing was too far out for it to be an option, fell back on my crap old FXR even though the other bike looked like a better bet on paper.

Maybe a tertiary institute will start a course.

You'd be sorted for credits then because you don't even really need to learn anything. As long as you turn up they can tick you off and receive 'their' (our!) wad of cash from the Govt.

Shit, doesn't need to be anything slightly technical though, much to hard... You may get a place on the new Rubenesque Studies course starting next trimester.
