Unbelievable weather today. O.K., there was a bit of cloud at times, but compared to the forecast...

On the way back on SH1 I thought for a moment it had started to rain but turned out to be coming from the truck and trailer just ahead of me. I hope it was only water...

Thanks for the company, guys. After I left you at Mercer I had a thoroughly boring ride to Hammyhole and a frustrating time once I got there (never managed to meet up with my wife and son), but the return trip was just the pits. I hate that road!!!
But the earlier part of the day made up for it.
    Thanks again Dave.

    Cheers Old One

Couldn't ask for nicer weather today, was nice, roads damp in lots of places but still rideable to keep a good pace up (well for dave anyway) must be the athritis in his wirst playing up again, should've heard him complaining about his knees....
had a good run to kawakawa Bay and onto Kaiua, even saw a HP on the way through there, odd. Visited a bit of road very close to my heart (and hands) in Kaiua, then a short blat to mercer for lunch, MikeL departed for SH1 and we hit 22, only to find some interesting obscatles, leave that to Dave. But onto some back roads (names????)(places????) i just followed the old one who's knows his way round these parts as he's been riding em for the past 70 odd years.
Good to catch up with NhuanH, Mal, Mike, Fossil, cheers for the company, bring on Sunday

nah, yer wrong there. He's been on them for at least 90 years.

I'm sure there was story time about the horse and cart that was used to get supplies to the little house on the prairie across that ol' dirt track. And wasn't there a memory of the first of these steel horse contraptions?

    Yes another great day !

started for me with a brisk ride home from night shift, it was a bit foogy and , but had all the makings of a good day.later that morning I Meet with the young pizza boy at papkura off ramp, we rode over to Clevedon to meet the others.
After a quick coffee, we were soon joined by my good friends Mike L, Mal and Nhuanh, as Bruce said we headed off to Kawakwawa bay, Kaiawa, Miranda,Mangatangi, H/way 2. and a brisk pace along Koheroa rd to mercer, after a good lunch at the Irish pub, Mike L bravely departed down # 1.

We crossed the river and rode to 22 via Mercer Ferry rd, again a great pace till we got to the Glen murray-Rangariri rd, which had detour signs up, we decided to Ride up The Glen Murray rd, about 2 ks south of 22, came across a large slip which had taken out about half the road, from here we road to Tikotiko rd(this provides a nice metal road shortcut back to 22).
we were just getting back in to the swing of things when we came across a road closed sign at the old Naike School, I decided to pop up and have a look to see what was going on, well bugger me, most of the road was gone(see pics), the contractor dropped the barrier for us and after getting some pics, we continued along to Herrington Rd , Ruawaro, Rotowaro and Huntly for some gas.

From there we rode back Te Ohaki rd to the Glen Murray Ragariri Rd(turn Left by Te Kauwhata Transport), back to 22, meet up with Mark, who had been doing a bit of solo, and back to Tuakau warp factor 9 .

Up ridge rd and Autobahn for coffee.. thanks again for you co guys, another great ride

oh Yeah rider of the day hmmmmmmmmm hard to pick this time so much talant, ah have to share it between Mal who is starting to put some pace on that new bike, and the Pizza boy for some pretty cool Monos(front tyre wear will not be problem for this youngin !)

FARKIN HELL! How did that happen? I'm going to be a bit worried about going down there now with mental images of the road disappearing beneath me.

Well, Bruce decided he would do this burnout, and then.........all hell broke loose and the Gixxer has so much power it blew the road away....it was AWESOME!!!

Great ride thanks guys, thanks Dave for organising it, I had a great day. Can't wait till the roads dry out proper and we can go around corners fully confident that it will be dry on the other side. Also looking forward to a new rear tyre!!!

Dave - you have got wayyyy quicker than when I rode with you with the VTR. Man, I have to analyse my riding and get on the pace!!! Awesome riding.

Jeezus! Were any vehicles damaged by it?
Imagine coming around that corner and seeing that ahead of you...

hey Erik, don't think so, no one said any had fallen in, mind you it was about 30 feet down, and looked like about 2-3000 cubic m of soil and rock missing, they were still waiting on a 20 tonne digger to arrive to start work on fixing it, I am going to ride back up there this afternoon to check it out for Sudeep and the weekend riders.

F/F may elaborate on this with some accuracy with regards to location, but there are other parts on 22 down to one lane where the road has dropped away - general rule of thumb, if there are caution signs or similar, SLOW DOWN, if its not the road that gets you it will be opposing traffic in your lane.

thinking about it, there's 2/3 other minor (1 boarding more major) slips along the 22 and they just put those orange and white bollard things around them, so people see them. May be they'll just do the same about this slip...

else we're all going to have to learn how to do bunny hops..
