I am currently a CNC machine programmer for a plastic fabricator. Do all sorts of shit, letters for signwriters, moulds for vacum forming, bulk bins for supermarkets, display boards, light boxes, various switch boxes and components, etc.

If you have ever been to a Z service station, paper plus, whitcoulls, farmers, or showered under a dome, you would have seen some of our shit.

The pay isnt great, but having access to a couple of CNC machines and various alloys and plastics means I get to make some pretty cool shit for my bikes, and my mates Hotrods.

After working as a machine technician for Burroughs in NZ and Fiji, started a Geology degree at Auckland, got bored and broke after a year or so and became a carpenter. (Seems to be a family trait, chippying.). Spent 30 yrs as a chippie, picking up Advanced Trade Cert along the way, ending up specialising in Heritage type houses and anything with unusual construction techniques, with a spell as a trenching contractor in a family business, laying underground telephone cable for the Post Office, for a couple of years, as well. Did my NZ Cert/Diploma in Quantity Surveying and the last 15 yrs have mainly been Q.S'ing, with a spell as a Building Inspector thrown in. Thought about finishing the Advanced Diploma of Building Surveying, but, really, I can't be bothered, even though it's a doddle. Now spend my time involved mainly with Catholic schools in W.A. and berating Architects who change all the drawings between tender and half way through construction, don't bother telling anyone, then act all indignant when you don't know what they're talking about and why didn't you allow for this and that. Because it WASN'T IN THE FUCKING DRAWINGS YOU PILLOCK! WE AREN'T MINDREADERS WITH PRESCIENCE BEYOND MERE MORTALS!!

    Oh well, back to work......

Started off at Waikato Stadium cooking chips for all the rugby fans. Terrible job. All night eating fatty/greasy/salty chips and you come home smelling like the fat you cook them in.

Then got a job working in a supermarket and have done ever since 6+ years mixture of fulltime and parttime.

Almost finished my IT degree (progammer/developer) and am currently doing part time IT work for a local business (getting paid the same as my supermarket job ).

Hopefully i can sort a job at the snow next year and head off to Canada at the end of the year
