then he told me about some other vans he knew of in hamilton and asked if they were my mates, said they all had bikes like me, so again i asked where he got all this info from, again he deflected,

Maybe this is all innocent and he realy wanted to buy my van, but to me the circumstances and the lack of answers to my questions had me a little suspicious, so i was just asking if anyone else had a similar thing happen before bikes were taken or houses were robed,

Oh and he said he was from up north but wouldnt say from where.......
Not hard to turn up at a local track show some interest while watching and innocently talk to people or make some comment as in wow who's that guy etc etc take a few details and follow you home. Why would someone from UP north come down your way so early looking at a van on the off chance you where home. Then asks you about the other vans/bikes so he has a name when he turns up there just in case some one is home when he gets there.

Come on Barty that is a pretty far fetch story, if you were at the track, then why not talk to the person there and then?
If a man is walking in a forest and no women is there to hear him is he still wrong?

Based on the info given (no 4 sale signs etc...) YEP be paranoid. But be proactive as well and move the bike to another address.
    Its not rocket science.

From what you say cobber, it's as suspicious as all hell. Stereotype or not, he knows your name where you live and come's around when you're probably not going to be home. Nope that's not paranoia, HE"S A FUCKEN THEIF!
Hope you got his rego (probably a stolen car anyway) but in your shoes I'd have my bikes off site for a month or two as suggested above. I hate these theiving pricks...

Cause then you would know the guy had seen you before and would really be thinking it odd that that he didnt ask about your van at the track way turn up at your house if you hadnt given him your address (cause odds are you where followed or spotted at some point on the way home) You would look a little out a place going round asking everyone at a track hey your van up for sale. makes a lot more less sus to just ask at your home or say that someone had said when you turn up if caught out by someone being at home. These guy are dumb but not dumb enough not to have an excuses ready at hand just in case your home.

Move your bike somewhere safe & lay some bait you could try a Dakota Murs alert system let's you know when you have Insurgents outside in the target area as well as a cellphone trail cam 4 a live view & a selection of non lethal instruments so you don't hurt them to much in the first hour of Interrogation.

If that happened to me I would be keeping my bike and van anywhere other than my house, and going with alarms, cameras, immobilisers, the lot.

Yes I see potential thieves everywhere I go now, but with my garage broken into twice and my car once (last month, but it was alarmed so only the window was broken, I suspect they took off after that), I think I have cause to. Though I would definitely be much less paranoid if the van was on tm or had for sale signs all over it.

    MMad - good thinking

I reckon, someone must've woken up on the wrong side of the bed this morning...

As its been said above get the bike off site ASAP, seems really sus that he mentioned about other vans he has seen with bikes in.

Bro if I lived in Ngaruawahia Id be more concerned if it were a white fella lol. But seriously there's some good advice given. Just treat everything as a potential theft risk (Will give purpose for your paranoia ). Although if someone really wants to steal somthing they will most likely get it, a bike bolted and chained to your garage floor will certainly lessen the risk. Go take ya beast for a ride that usually puts things into perspective
