    Thieving bastards

What a way to start your day,

Woke up this morning to find a text and email from my bank to say that my debit card has been blocked due to unusual transactions...
After speaking to the bank its apparent that some lowlife scum had attempted to debit my account on the 1st occasion they got $13.02 from the account then 10 minutes later they tried for several hundred dollars under a different name (but believe its the same BASTARDS), at this point they were stopped by the banks monitoring system...

I have always thought I have been rather careful in the use of my debit card as I only use it on 3 online sites and only put money onto the card when I am going to use it, just goes to show you how ever careful you think you are you can always fall victim too someone elses greed

    Rant over....

There are some real sneaky pricks out there. Bummer dude. At least the bank has put a stop to it.

My paypal got hacked yesterday. They took $2k. Within 5 minutes PP refunded me the money including the $9 transaction fee. I am in the process of disconnecting my PP account from my bank accounts. Not sure how they did it. Since changed all p/words etc.

We had an identical problem a couple of years back. The banks have monitoring software which can flag weird transactions. The bank rang us up one dinner time and asked whether we'd made a transaction for something like $5 buying an item from the USA. We said no and they said "thought not". They warned us there would be a rapid attempt for a larger amount in short order, the first one being to test that the card worked. We were lead to believe that some Eastern European scammers were in the country at the time and may have doctored an ATM machine. Apparently very hard to do now.

Anyway, it's great to know that the banks were onto it and our cards were replaced within a couple of days or so.
