Cool Oops the police are so busted....

Tonight on the news (21/6/05) the police have been busted good and proper.

Police Cars, speed camera vehicles, undercover cars, police m/bikes, dog handler vehicles all around New Zealand have been driven around on our roads and not been up to WOF standard.

Nope, its not all the police vehicles, but about 100 odd of them.
Some were being driven around for 2 months without a WOF.

The police are rushing around and checking up on all their vehicles...

Now will they the drivers of said vehicles get ticketed for not having a vehicle up to WOF standard? After all it is up to the person driving the vehicle to make sure when they get in the vehice that it is up to WOF standard.

Now I wonder how many of these cars were used in police chases, or when the police stopped and handed out tickets for no WOF to people....

Oh dear, the shame of it all for the police....

(Not taking the piss out of the KB bikers who are in the police force.)

no surprises here - there's still a couple of VP commodores mooching about - i remember driving one that had 250000ks on the clock, and was still a primary front-line car. with a 6 month WOF (instead of 12 like the newer cars) and service garages being contracted out instead of based in the station basement, it is no wonder some cars miss their WOF date. i have seen 1/2 dozen patrol cars get pink stickered in an audit once. - fraying seat belts, crash damage, fucked brakes, ball joints, suspension.

still though, when there's 1/2 the station's front line fleet in the basement crashed/rammed/pink stickered and no money to pay for repairs, something has got to be used to get cops out on the street

Yeah, I couldnt believe that there is so many police vehicles not up to WOF standard...

Now I wonder if they are now checking all the police cars that have crashed in chases.... as over the years many police cars have crashed.

HA HA. I will remember to check that the WOF and Rego are up to date on the next cop that decides to pull me over.

I got to work one day to find we had a pool vehicle with expired registration. We refused to drive it until they had it sorted (unless there was an emergency), and spent a lovely hour and a half with our feet up waiting for it to be done. With the daily checks that we do, very few trucks slip through the nets now - unless someone has been lazy and not done them properly - then they get their asses kicked.

Thats just dodgy... cops of all people should be driving 100% safe (and legal) vehicles... Cops do high speeds and evasive (Sp) driving if anything they need to be protected, because as stated before they have accidents too...

Very disapointing... I think the cops do an ok job, but latley they've only been getting bad news and a bad image...

Well the good thing is that the cops can fill their quota without leaving their carpark.
But really, what's next? No sooner than they try to bury one scandal, another one pops up. Apart from all the drivers being ticketed, I hope they sack the fleet managers (if any), maintenance and legality are the first priorities in running a fleet.
I've always thought that patrol cars should be subject to a COF not a WOF due to their use in high speed situations.

There have always been exemptions from various WoF and CoF regulations for vehicles on ''Her Magisties Sevice'',mainly for Armed Services vehicles.

CoF is a Certificate of Fitness, used for comercial vehicles and those carrying passengers, also rental cars, and motorcycles.Often said to be tougher than a WoF,but that's a misconception, they are looking at things a WoF inspector isn't allowd to check, some things specific to the use of the vehicle. When I looked after a rental fleet the CoF inspector was hot on what he called ''presentation'' - so he would make me repaint a car because the paint on the boot lid was faded.

Is this election year or something?????

Everyone makes a mistake once in a while. Its just a pity that these guys are law enforcement officers that the flak really hits the fan

I haven't been done for anything on my car (I'm a good boy, and keep my toys up to scratch), but for those who have been done, think they could call a bluff and say if they have to pay the fine, then so does the cop, cos their car wasn't WOF'd either..??

Must say tho, very slack of the cops. Of all the people to set an example and standards, and they can't achieve it themselves..?? tut tut..

I don't think it's 100% the actually police officers fault... they're told what to do and have to do it... but then again they could refuse to get into an illegal vehicle... but what would the reprocussions (sp) be?

Maybe one of the cops on here could clarify this... if they refused to get into a non road legal police car (or bike) what would happen?
