All the Aussie guys I work with tell me about their amazing internet deals just to boil my piss....faaaaaark, are we being ripped off BIG time! We've got a tiny country, should be a piece of wee to get reasonable cheap mobile/IT coverage compared to the vast wasteland that is Oz.....but noooooo, instead we're a small captured market that can be fleeced without mercy.

We have been with telecom for donkeys. And by now, we know that there's one thing that they are good at beyond all others.

    Excuses.

We've been waiting to get hooked up to ADSL 2+ for almost 2 years now. I emailed them once asking when this was gonna happen, since I took screenshots everytime it was postponed. And they literally said, "Oh, thats not our problem, Chorus is a division of Telecom, and we can't do anything about them."

How can you not do anything about a division of your own company?
I never get lost. I go on adventures

What deals were they talking about? Most of my deals over there were "average".
Even with mobiles I found it a pain in the arse to get the phones jailbroken all the time.

all the ISP's are much of a muchness..
I used to work in the network engineering departments of Ihug, telecom, Maxnet, and Callplus (slingshot).

Basically you just have to decide who is going to give you the best "package" - none of the big ISP's will give you decent tech support, and the smaller ones will give decent tech support, but not as many bundled services.

I use slingshot, not only because I worked there, but because I get naked ADSL (no telecom phone line), VOIP (with really good calling plans), and cheap data, with data banking. This means if I decide I want to download some stuff, I buy some extra data (say, 50Gb ($50 - cheaper by half than the other big isps)), and I dont use it, then it gets carried over - doesnt apply to the data that comes with your plan, just any additional.

Oh.. and downloads between 2am and 8am are free :P (so schedule yer torrents for then, if you are still doing that to your home pc.. criminals!)

So basically you decide what you want.. check out a few places, and who ever seems the best to you on the day gets your service.

(ps ihug and vodafone are the same place.. and they SUCK)
