    Cellphone crash risk questioned

    Increased risk of having a car crash attributed to cellphone use may have been overestimated in some past studies, a new analysis suggests.

    I still think driving is multi-tasking enough and that's what you need to concentrate on.

    Is this a related story then;

    A 19-year-old driver was texting just before his pickup truck, two school buses and a truck collided in a deadly pileup on an interstate highway in Missouri last year, the National Transportation Safety Board said today (NZ time).

    Yeah, cellphones are dangerous. But looking at a tv screen glued to your windscreen, trying to follow a map, while some pommy bitch is telling you you're doing it wrong, is fine.

    while yes, there are far worse things we're allowed to, & do, do than using the cell while driving, including the good old radio. That device right there is far worse than any cell I have ever used in terms of dangerous while driving & she been a common & accepted component since the 70's

    I think it's hands-free driving that's the problem. They really should be doing something with both hands - like operating the steering wheel, for instance.
    Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

    Finding an album on your iPod, that's fine too.

    If you're any good you should be able to do it one handed

    It's amazing how we've been able to drive with the radio on, talking to passengers, opening a pack of chocolate peanuts with a durrie out the corner of the gob yet hold a bloody phone to your ear & wahoo you're a criminal.

    Doing anything else in the car means you're not 100% focussed on the driving. Most people need at least 100% of their poor skills focussed on their driving.

    what? you mean bus drivers up in the North Shore don't follow so close that you wouldn't get a fashion model sideways between them? Down here you would be forgiven for thinking they were linked like trains.

    No they just go through that same "special" licensing system as taxi's... Need proof our licensing system is fucked, look no further than passenger licences. The licence to show you don't know how to drive
