    McCaw and a knighthood

Can someone tell me why he was offered one?He captained a team that managed to beat a bunch of nobodys by one point to win a game of rugby that i know,as yet ive no knowledge of his cure for cancer or years of devoting time freely to those less fortunate.Would he have been offered one if the All Blacks had lost by a point?Crazy old world eh,talk about a welfare state, anyone can get a handout and it seems a bloody Knighthood.Theres a 73 year old bloke that lives a couple of blocks from me and for as long as i can remember hes devoted his weekends to coaching kids playing Rugby/Cricket for nothing...theres plenty of the same all over this country who are far more deseving of such an offer.

Agree wholeheartedly. Can never understand why successful business men get knighted either.

Funny he said no to the knighthood but yes to the honorary doctorate from Lincoln University. I guess he wants to be Dr Richie McCaw for a while and maybe Sir Richie later on

John Key is hoping that if he dishes out a few of these, sooner or later he will get one dished out to himself ... that's what he hopes is in it for him!

Not that I have any personal dislike for the guy.

But I agree, gets paid a fairly large sum to play a game he loves, then gets offered an elite status title.

I don't see Ivan Mauger or Possum Bourne getting knighted. Or the dude who looked after the traffic crossing outside my primary school for about 700 years..

Ivan Mauger got a MBE from memory, and mr Bourne only won australian titles,

I do not beleive that you should get a knighthood for winning a rugby title, I think that it should be more for the services to the community,
