5 Joey Dunlop - One of the Isle of Man’s greatest riders (8%)
6 Mike Hailwood - Considered to be the greatest motorcycle racer yet (6%)

You can tell it's an english language site.

Still don't understand how people can rate Barry Sheene (and Kenny Roberts Snr for that matter) and yet never mention Agostini arguably still the greatest rider of all time. He's practically the only one with records that Rossi hasn't broken yet. Shit I'd rate Mike the Bike hire than Barry Sheene. Next they'll be wanting to add Nicky Hayden.

Got to agree with Steve McQueen though. He's still the very definition of Cool.
Hayden - Evidence that even the mediocre can achieve great things.

Tom Cruise?? What has that fucktard ever done on a bike? No way should that scientology nutter be above Ewan McGregor , let alone be on such a list in the first place.

I think Joey Dunlop should be further up the ranks that guy was a legend

Tom Cruise well he cant really be counted for riding round on a old bike and wearing dorky sunglasses!

Ewan Mcgreggor well he does ride a bike and does those adventure things so yeah ok.

Big Vale I thought he would have been a big icon

    And no Nicky Hayden?

Took the words right out of my mouth SpankMe. Fuck, almost embarrassed that he made it to the list. In fact due to his inclusion I shall disregard the entire poll.

What about Che Guevara? He's as cool as McQueen.

    How about Pablo Nieto?

    Chris Carr?

    Glenn Curtis?

    Jarno Saarinen?

The haven't picked Motorcycling Icons, they've picked Public Image Biking Icons. There's a big difference.

Still doesn't explain the inclusion of Cruise.

No it wasn't. MCN (or Make up Content for News) is an English publication.

If it had been a US poll, voted for by US, then it would have had 10 US people, more than likely.

I think the idea is "Biking Icons" rather than it having anything to do with their success on a bike. Hence Brando and Cruise, as a lot of people (especially non-bikers) would be likely to think of them when asked to name a famous biker.

My question is: who came up with the list? Was it "Just vote for anyone you want"? Or was a list provided, and you then had to choose from it?

Barry Sheene will always come near the top of a UK listing, for obvious reasons.

Tom Cruise????? I believe, and correct me if I'm wrong, that Tom Cruise is in fact computer generated. He does not exist! He would never survive the bullying if he did!

Why do we not have a NZ top 10 motorcycling icons poll?
