    vfr400

    i have a vfr400 v4 motor apparently.

The chain came of and smashed the casing and may have damaged the gearbox bit.

Im looking at getting a replacement motor but am unsure how to identify what will fit and wont etc.

As there alot of vfr400 motors but seem to have diff engine number's ie nc13 nc30 etc

Does any have any info or knowledge of these?

    Thanks in advance

Engine number is on the bottom of the back cylinders if my fuzzy brain speaks the truth.
The NC24 VFR and NC30 had a different firing order too, yet going from memory.
If it's an NC21 or NC24, they're easy to pick up a whole bike cheap.

    Bugger.

Yours is most likely an NC 21, we had a chat at the mini MX track.

Unless it is another VFR400 powered kart, but I guess that's not too likely.

an NC21 or 24 should fit, an NC 30 I THINK may be slightly different. Would prob be easy to make it fit though.

It's unlikely you will need a new motor. Maybe worth it if you found one real cheap.

If you are smart about and the damage isn't too bad the cases are likely to be repairable with Devcon, JB-weld or similar or by welding.

Sort that chain guide out, it needs to be much meatier.

EDIT: Well, fuck, I may not have had a yack to you if you do live in Palmy. Still, above advice still stands.
One quick and easy way to get an idea of which motor it is it to look at the redline 13k='21 24 is higher (can't remember off the top of my head) and NC30 higher again.
That of course assumes the rev counter is the one that originally came with the motor. Googling serial is probably better bet!

NC13 E Mean anything to you?

Mine has that stamped on it.. Also has motor bike rev counter fitted which red line's at 13k?

Yes chain guide will be getting a beef up as it's probably most the reason the chain come off.

What are the other numbers? I can tell you what model it is. All the V4 400s were NC13E

Should mount the same. I think there were a couple of wiring differences, but easy enough to sort out

Different carbs too, but, they may be interchangeable.

    NC30 redline 14,500,000,000,000,000 rpm.

    Enough to hit 88mph anyway.
