    Methven Mountain Thunder 2012

Well looks like they did it again, perfect day for racing, good crowd. About 100 bikes entered some real old stuff with a few flash bikes (mostly buckets). I got there on Friday night so I wouldnt need to get up too early , set up camp with Buddha and DC leaving some room for Diesel Pig when he turned up on Sat.
A cold night gave us perfect conditions , so when i got up track construction was under way, and in a few hours they had built the best Methven Bucket track ever.
The big change was the last corner onto the start finish straight, previously it was a 90° corner this year it was more like a sweeper so it was way easier to carry more speed with confidence.
Practice was fun the first 2 laps under Police escort, he was fun to mess with good bloke Rastuscat from KB
Because I was in charge of handing out the grid positions and the front row was kinda empty I upgraded myself to business class and moved into grid 2 which was brendans spot, in race 1 it didnt really help as everyone jumped the start , payback I guess. Buddha made a killer move into turn 1 and did well for it, helped me with my strategy for race 2, it was a good hard out race
al Hoogie DC, Timg, Buddha, Ashley, me 6th

Race 2 came round got a great start and was 3rd into turn1 Buddha was pretty determined to take my spot , we fought pretty hard swapping positions 4 or 5 times over a couple of laps, it was great , I held him off then had a clear run to the last lap where Ashley shoed me a wheel 2 corners from the finish, no way was I giving up this spot , Best race Ive had for ages !!

Race 3 started like R2 but Tim was in 3rd and me 4thI had this Idea about braking late into T1 but what a complete cockup that was in the blink of an eye I was back in 7th where I stayed for the rest of the race, still good just not what was in my plan.

There was a race 4 , but i think I was alread past my best by date and finished about 6th or 7th.

The racing was hard , everything ran smoothly , bugger all crashes . Pretty awesome day put on by the Cams club its their showcase meeting and is one of the best SI meets on the Bucket calendar

Thats was one of the best battles in the races to watch all day, as per usual the Buckets had the biggest field and best racing

    Duplicate post ...

I've just posted a vid that I put together today.
Awesome day down there huh? What a great atmosphere. Might have to invest in a Bucket bike or three

Reckon I must have been standing right on top of the Ashburton TV crew's camera for most of the day judging by the similar shots ...
