Throttle kits - recommendations please

I'm looking at throttle kits for the CBR. I found the below but was wondering if anyone had any brand/model recommendations.

I recommend just building up your existing throttle tube with superglue and a thick cable tie.

Honda do a HRC fast action throttle. Available from Honda or ebay. Its a fiddly job but good for the track.

Anyone had experience with the Motion Pro Revolver VR Throttle Kit?

It states that you can change a reel over in a few minutes without having to re-adjust the throttle cables all over again.

Same here. I used a 6mm piece of perspex and a couple of hole saws instead of a piece of cable tie, but it's all much of muchness.

Those are a total have... $145 for a throttle tube? Go on, you're having a laugh aren't ya? What a freakin rip, what do they do, turn it for you?!?

Paying for one of these would be like paying for a wank... sure it'd be a little easier, but you could definitely do it yourself easily enough.

I had a look at doing similar to mine, then wondered why this is always done at the handlebar end, surely it makes more sense to replace the pulley/cam/whatsit on the carbs/throttle bodies? You keep the stock cables and switch cluster etc, so it'd be way cheaper surely?

No, do that math (it's easy), you can make it practically a light switch (which I don't recommend) on the stock tube. In fact it you went too far, you'd need a new housing, not a tube.

From my experience, taking the stock (almost all road bikes at 1/4th turn) any more than some between 1/5th and 1/6th is too far. YMMV. Best of all, if it's too much, shave it down or remove it.

I remember buying a Hairy R's adapter for an old GSXR I had. I spewed when I saw what it was for the price. So I learnt to do the Cable Tie trick.

yeh that's what I mean, stock diameter is what about 30mm? possibly add another 10mm (asuming you still want a groove for the cable to sit in) in the same housing, goes from 1/4 to 1/5.3, need more gotta get a new housing. Also, with replacement bit at the other end, you could probably make it progressive too...

Yup, housing might need an increase, but then that's the same with any kit you'd buy too. More than 1/5th is getting a bitch much, but YMMV.

I did chamfer mine a little at one stage for more progression, but basically all I wanted was less change between totally cloes and totally open, so I dumped it and stuck with the nearly entirely constant radius.


One thing I can tell you for sure, on my RGV250, it was THE BEST MONEY I NEVER SPENT

There is alot of work in remanufacturing the cam on the throttle bodies compared to changing it on the throttle tube. You can get away with quite abit inside std throttle housings, the only thing that you may need to do on some is trim the plastic on the cable ends.

And there is no need for a groove, many bikes dont even have a groove. And the ones that do (like suzuki) you can just fill the groove with expoxy resin to acheive the same result.

yeh I wouldn't be after much increase either, especially on my RC31, wouldn't want a slight twitch to unleash the fury unexpectedly got at least a paddock full of horses on tap
