Mine had done 85k and still going great when I sold it, had a bit of a rattle in the engine that went away when warmed up which I never worried about too much. According to the parts book I have the camchain has a joining link, so in my past experience you can just mark the cams at tdc then use the old chain to draw a new one through the crankcase and join it up.
Previous owner is the 4th person I know of (including myself) who has moved from an xj600 to a ducati, so beware if you buy it there may be an italian in you future...
