[QUOTE=Trade_nancy;1130226860,,just the cross hatches and I pass on them,...[/QUOTE]
Not a good move ......if its what i think you are describing....well its a bit of a no no...only time you should be in this area is for turning right...should have taken him on the double yellows, why wait to complete an illegal overtaking manouvre.........
Reminds me of the classic advert.. "poor overtaking leads to undertaking".

Interesting post tho.... If i see bikes coming up from behind / overtaking i ausually move to the left of my lane & let em through, especially with my wife on the back...... same when i'm in the car.
I'd rather be behind em than in front + it gives me the opportunity to check out their bikes.![]()

A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"
Bowls can wait !
Ah - that was me, and I don't need the refresher.

It says
I don't advocate anything more than lane 'sharing' is legal, given certain conditions. You can pass at a no-passing line if:
you stay on your side of the solid yellow line, and
you can see 100 metres of clear road in front of you for the whole time while you are passing, and
the lane is wide enough for two vehicles.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?
Didn't seem any point - they were lined up from Paraparaumu as far as the eye could see...decided it was not going to help to overtake any unless I overtook maybe 500..Did see a Ford Explorer do the dreaded overtake at the end of the overtaking lanes at the same place those people just died last week doing the same thing, just south of Paraparaumu. The same black Explorer pulled out from the red shop on the RHS of road heading south - near Raumati..right into our path - we were 4 bikes in a line...he hauled on the gas in a hurry to get away from us...knowing he he had done it...he had no hope of getting across the traffic without cutting someone off I guess. That experience likely had an influence on my behaviour for the rest of the ride....no hurry.
Point taken MSTRS. Mount Stewart used to be 1 lane up and one lane down from memory - years ago...but they add on 4-5 feet and split the lane into 2. Wide enough for 2 bikes though...and from what is shown in the link you posted..the case is clear for a bike to overtake a bike as they did to me...and I'm WRONG, WRONG, WRONG.....and I'd probably expect it to happen if I was on say the WGTN motorway...but would say I'd avoid doing it myself...in case I encountered someone like myself....not being perfect..like most of us. So best to plan for a mistake by the guy up ahead and not shoot the gap doing 90mph.
I take a lesson from the experience too.
Cheers.
....those Manawatu riders can be little buggers sometimes.
You were not wrong to not be expecting it. It is a rare thing to happen. Expect in cases of slow traffic and lane splitting (which is what this manoeuvre is). But now you are aware it is legal, it may never happen to you again.
What I would say is - ALWAYS expect the unexpected.
Only cowboyz...
