    Thumbs up

I got fed up with wearing glasses to do everything so I had laser correction surgery. Had one eye only done and have coped well with that for six months, but will be getting the other eye done in a few months. Great to be able to thread a needle, read stuff on packs in supermarkets, look up phone numbers, read the paper, etc without having to put on glasses.

I had progressive lenses as I'm far-sighted and have astigmatism. With only one eye corrected my distance vision isn't as good as before, and there is also a gap in the intermediate distance vision, which is why I'm getting the other eye done.

It seems expensive when you first look at it ($3000 per eye) but when you factor in new glasses every few years and new sunglasses too if you do a lot outside (I had Convertibles - they have magnetic clip-on tinted lenses so I didn't need sunnies as well), it doesn't take long to pay for it. I'll carry on having the eye exams every few years but not having to wear glasses to read a recipe or send a text is fantastic! No big dents at the top of my nose from glasses (even light frames and plastic lenses) either.
Yes, I am pedantic about spelling and grammar so get used to it!

My vision cant be corrected by laser. I dont mind wearing specs for reading, I have to wear them almost full time now though.

    The decision...

Paid good money, well spent, for a complete, professional eye exam. Turns out I have a rinkin developing, who knows how long before it affects my sight though. I have chosen a pair of like for like frames, and will get my almost no different prescription put in them (they actually improved ) I will claim on my insurance.

So for the cost of an eye exam plus an excess I will have new specs I can read with. Will return after my holidays to get something else checked out in maraetai, and pay a further $40 for that test, I will also be getting my prescription so I can invest in some "cheap" spare specs

I have elected to go with the full eye exam and new frames/lenses. I have no doubt my insurance company will ban me from replacing anymore specs

They can make an attempt at soldering the old frames back together apparently, whether they stay together is another story. Lets hope I make a more robust choice this time. Two years seems such a short time to render quite expensive frames redundant. I only wear them for reading/computer work, so not full time at all. I thought the ones I chose were titanium wonders, turns out they were titanium weaks...
Hmmm, only two years. not really good enough eh, considering the price that you pay for them. My frames are about 5 years old, showing signs of wear now ( the colour has come off)
Make sure that when you take them off, you are using two hands! Especially important when you are doing the glasses on/glasses off thing more than once a day!
Diarrhoea is hereditary - it runs in your jeans

If my nose was running money, I'd blow it all on you...
