It was an excellent turnout, and well run by Frosty and Kerry.

Props too to Death and LooseBruce for helping move bikes around so that those who needed to leave early could extricate their bikes.

Just a reminder to everyone - if you need some technical help or advice with your bike, don't hesitate to ask Kerry: he's very helpful, approachable, and willing to "go the extra mile" (often to his own financial detriment...)
And if you need something like a new tyre, brake work, a tune-up, or whatever, but are putting it off because of the cost, Kerry can work something out with you. Like he said last night - he'd rather do that than have someone hurt on the road because they're riding an unsafe machine.

A classic example of this is one time (I think it might have been at band camp, but I can't remember), I was in having new tahrs fitted by Kerry. This guy came in to have a new rear tyre fitted to his Ducati 900. Kerry tried to talk him into a new front too, but the guy said, "Nah... I can't afford it!" I couldn't believe it - the tyre wasn't roadworthy, had virtually no tread at all on it, and this was in winter! I said as much to Kerry, and he said, "Yeah - I know. I offered to do it on lay-by or whatever to help him out, but he refused. Crazy..."
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

I had the AV49-SP front and AV46-ST rear (IIRC) on the FahrtSturm.
Not too bad at all (better'n the earlier Avons), and like Kerry says, there's a 1000km guarantee on them - "I guarantee you'll like these..." (and I did) "...but if you don't like them, bring 'em back and we'll fit something else at no cost."
He also fixed a puncture I had in my rear Avon for free, which surprised me, but he said, "Why not? You buy your tyres from me, I'll take care of you."
    Top bloke is Kerry.

Good On you lot for turning up and not being embarressed to ask dumb questions. No question is ever dumb --You are dumb if ya dont know summat and dont speak up.
Kerry me ol mate came through for us --bloody great team work there my man
And lets not forget SAm who without a qualm donated her bike for ol Frosty to destroy right in front of her eyes--Im sure I saw a little tear there Sam --But all was good and it ended up being better than when she gave it to us.
The next spanner evening is going to be soonish and will build on this basic level of knowledge you now have.
We will be covering changing brake pads, changing spark plugs cleaning out a carbie and other stuff you folks want to know.
Next time there will be a difference--YOU will be expected to get your hands dirty
To see a life newly created. To watch it grow and prosper. Isn't that the greatest gift a human being can be given?

If there was one criticism last night (no, not of you and Kerry - you were great!) it was that at times people weren't getting up close and having a good look. However, nothing beats having a go yourself. Thirty-odd years of tinkering has taught me a bit, and there have been only a few cockups - broke an oil-feed banjo bolt off once, broke a TPS, and once forgot to tighten the spark plugs more than finger-tight.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    fuck me I learnt heaps.

thanks to frosty and kerry for such a good evening.

if anyones intrested, Ill be pulling my bike to bits (I think) incl removing my back wheel on saturday outside on a concrete pad. if you are planning on doing something similar then come along.

and if anyones got a rear wheel lift thing like what frosty and kerry sell, could I borrow one?
I dont think my car-jack under the engine and side stand will be a good idea if im totally removing the wheel.
I only posted this because of the global economic crisis

Everyone else has beaten me to it, but let me again reiterate what top blokes Kerry and Frosty are for organising and running the spanner evening! (And thanks to Sam for letting us molest her bike!)

Great for a n00b like me to meet a some of the KB community out in the real world...sorry I wasn't a little more social: it has been a L O N G week and I was [and still am] pretty shattered...thank fark it's POETS day.

FYI I am the bald fella with glasses, next to the blonde Mrs Phurrball, and in between Frosty and Placidfemme...see second photo in Magicmarker's post.

Aye, after all that learning stuff, one of the highlights of the evening was watching Kerry try and rein in his colourful language [on occasion]. No need for such restraint IMHO - Farked is one of the most useful adjectives when dealing with any mechanical device! Its use should be encouraged where it accurately describes a situation! [Like THOSE sprockets!!!]

Very interesting evening which was much appreciated.

Getting dirty? Do you envisage working on a number of bikes Frosty?
